There’s really no better way to see a musical.
How to see a musical on Broadway
How I did it: I'm English and saw my first Broadway musical 'Chicago' when i was in New York at Christmas, it's definitely worth doing.
I always wanted to see a musical at the west end in London or on Broadway and managed to do both within a month!
Lessons & tips: Tickets are expensive and drinks and snacks etc. are ridiculously
overpriced so expect it to be expensive, don't let the cost put you off
it will be worth it in the end.
It can be fun not booking in advance and getting last minute tickets
because then you get the added excitement of not knowing what your
going to see!
Bare in mind that some seats are much better than others, i got a crick in my neck straining to see the stage from the side and around the head of the tall man in front! Think about your seats before you buy.
good luck.
Resources: The Internet.
hotel concierge's are great at getting tickets even last minuet.

Hell yeah!!!
Rent, Scarlet Pumpernickel, Top Dog Under Dog, I can’t remember the others.
Soozcat is a happy nutbar
So let’s say you’re a Westerner who lives far from New York City. Two things to keep in mind:
- Yes, it’s worth doing.
- It’s going to be really expensive if you don’t plan ahead.
So PLAN AHEAD. Simple, no?
Transportation and housing is going to be an issue for most people. I strongly recommend going in mid-winter if at all possible. Yes, New York will be cold and freezy, but that’s what layered clothing is for—and the off season means cheaper flights and hotel prices.
If you can, go with a group. Hotel suites are far more reasonable if you can split the cost with several people. We chose a hotel recommended by JetBlue, which also offered the best priced flight to New York at the time.
The average seat on Broadway costs around $100, so plan accordingly. If you can’t get tickets for the show you want at TKTS , you could try doing what we did to get into a sold-out showing of Wicked—stand in the cancellation line and wait for the inevitable. With thousands of tickets sold in advance, there are always a certain number of people who can’t show up due to family emergencies or other issues, and the theater sells their seats to people in the cancellation line. We got great seats.
Some general-purpose cost cutting tips:- Don’t buy the Original Broadway Cast album in the theater; it’ll cost twice the regular price. Pick it up from Amazon.com once you’ve gotten home.
- The subway is going to be less expensive than taxi service, so use it when you can. Taxis aren’t bad for short trips, especially late at night, and can be a decent bargain if you split the fare with other passengers.
- Find out where the locals eat. This is a good general-purpose recommendation no matter where you’re traveling—you can blow through a whole lot of money dining in trendy restaurants. There was a little cafe near our hotel that offered breakfast, lunch and dinner specials at very reasonable prices.
It’s well worth saving your money to catch a Broadway show, even if you live far from New York. Strongly recommended.
I’ve seen several musicals and plays at the Fox Theater here in Atlanta, but I really want to see an actual broadway musical….hopefully I can get to New York next year for spring break I guess I’ll have to look into that.
I’ve seen plenty of musicals in Toronto, but I’d love to see one on broadway in New York.
It would have to be Phantom of the Opera. And maybe Rent.
You don’t have to like the Broadway genre, but go see at least one show. It’s a unique New York City experience..
the only real problem is actually choosing which one you want to see. i know that there are other problems too, like tix and dates… or if you dont live near NYC. but it’s totally worth seeing any good musical on Broadway.
suggestions: just a few out of so many others…
for your comedy lovers: The Producers, Spamalot
for your romancers: Phantom of The Opera [really awesome], Rent.
For those who just want to have fun: Lion King, Tarzan, Mamma Mia
off-broadway: Blueman Group [these guys aint exactly musical, but their performance is so much fun i guarantee you’ll remember it]
Ha, Ha, Ha!!! That’s me giddy with excitement; because I actually get to go to a Broadway musical this Easter (Sun, April 8, 2007)! My sis and I are going to see The Color Purple! I’ve heard it’s great and I can’t wait!
