So it flooded near my apartment this year so I ended up moving in with my sister in another part of town. At first it was great, the apartment wasn’t quite as big, but it was newer. But I’ve decided not to renew our lease because they aren’t very good at maintance and the neighbors are just getting to be awful. They are either really loud, or their cooking smells the whole place up. So I am not done yet with my search.

So far I’ve looked at 11 places and only one has tugged on my heart strings and it wasn’t really anything that I was looking for. Outside laundry and terrible bathroom. Why do I need to improve on everything? Why not?
I hate this ‘in between’ time. Packing starts next week !!!!

So just like my search to one day to own my own home, I want to find the perfect apartment. Since I won’t probably be getting a home for a few years. The lease on the apartment I have now isn’t up for a few months yet but that just gives me some time to find the right one here in town.

We’re all moved in now. The moving guys got the TV yesterday and that was the last of it. Now I just have to finish up cleaning the old apartment and wait for Z to come home and make it feel… like home.

I just met with the landlord and the other tenants in the four-plex last night and sealed the deal! I am soooo excited! It’s gorgeous and huge. Mom, Z’s brother and Amy are going to help me move on Saturday. Yay, new apartment!

Well this one may be happening much sooner than I anticipated! We were planning to move into a friend’s apartment so she could get out of her lease and we could get out of a security deposit but that didn’t end up panning out. I just so happened to notice that an apartment that Z and I were interested in earlier this year is open again and when I told him about it he said, “do whatever it takes!” It’s a townhouse, 2 bed 1.5 bath, garage, washer and dryer, dishwasher… beautiful!

The Dream Studio is out there somewhere. It has lots of light, just enough space for my modest furniture, hardwood floors, and is located on a tree-lined street. The ‘hood is safe and lovely, within walking distance of parks, cafes, and transportation. Probably located in a nice, beautiful Victorian building that includes cool antique moldings and hardware (like doorknobs and lighting fixtures.) It is clean and resplendent, and has “good energy”. The kitchen is big enough to cook in with one or two other people. The bathroom has a tub and shower, and fabulous water pressure. It is ripe for decoration. Perhaps the landlord even allows cats. Most importantly, it is affordable!
I feel safe and cozy in my very own little studio that I so deserve.

Two stories, hardwoods, double decks, ceiling fans, two bed and bath, great neighborhood (Wicker Park, Chicago)! I’m in heaven!

Kristen doesn't especially WANT to write a "How I Did It" story, thanks.
Two bedrooms, big (for NYC) kitchen, quiet, safe, near the subway… done and done.
