How to be a barista by breathe27

"You can do this as long as you care about quality and consistency and realize that you never stop learning."

How I did it: I got a job at a local coffee shop and learned through watching, doing and practicing. I watched my coworkers. I researched techniques. I absorbed myself in the coffee culture.

Lessons & tips: Only practicing will make you better. Make sure you are tasting what you are making periodically too. A latte may look right but sometimes they can taste off. Learning how to trouble shoot problems (because there will be many of them on any given day at the coffeehouse) will really help.

Being friendly with customers is a great thing too. It's one thing if you can make a spectacular cappuccino, but if you can make the customer feel like they're having a good time it's even better.

    I have been an unemmployed waitress since June 15 2009. I amm very particular about what I do and where I work. I live in a smmall town so choices are limmited.
    I becamme aware of a possible opening as a barista with Starbucks at Canada Safeway. I went down in mmy black outfit and (Starbucks) green sweater to apply for a position. I amm pretty confident that I will be called in at somme point as I amm fammiliar this location and was recommmended by one of the staff.
    If anyone has seen Saturday Night Live and the skit with Swan at the Starbucks – I actually resemmble Swan by way of features and mmannerismms. Just a fun fact!
