I have started this summer by working out, exercising, and eating healthy. I hope by next summer that I can fly to Maine and then bike across the United States over the course of the summer. That will be my goal and I want to do this alone as an adventure and to just sit back and look at the world as I bike along.

I want to ride across the country from San Francisco to Boston. I don’t want to do it alone and I would love to do it to support education for children or an environmental cause. It will have to wait until 2010.
Anybody have any suggestions on where I can find some folks who want to join?
thanks
This is nothing I can do while training for a marathon.
I also don’t want to leave Jon behind for a long time and he cannot take that much time off. We might do something like this once he retires or so.
i did it, 3800 miles. renews your faith in humanity, we’re a good people.
One day I had cycled 119 miles in 90 degree weather, I was hungry, tired, and a little upset. We found out the campground we were going to stay at was closed, we had nowhere to stay. We knocked on a random door and asked for kindness.
We were rewarded, they cooked us dinner, gave us a beer, and made us breakfast. I asked the lady ‘why are you doing this, you don’t even know us?’ She said, I’ll remember this forever, ‘If my son was in the same situation I’d want people to treat him this way’
THAT IS IT.
After I graduate from college I’m gonna just go. No hotels, and only probably about 1000 bucks. We’ll see what happens.
I rode from Central Florida to the southernmost point of the USA. That’s at least a start!
I accomplished this goal in 2000. We went from San Francisco to Portsmouth, NH supported by a group [America By Bicycle]. They carried all our stuff and we rode from motel to motel [no camping]. The nice thing about an organized ride is that you get to meet a diverse group of people. They literally become family by the time you finish. There were 20 people on our ride. And, you have a sag and mechanics when you need them. The ride took 7 weeks. I raised the money needed for the ride by funraising for the Lymphoma Society. I believe I raised about $20K above the cost of the ride. If you really want to do this, just commit. It’s scary but just plan a day and commit. You’ll never regret it.
I have decided to keep this goal on my list. I would like to do this next summer with my friends who are organizing a trip this summer that they hope will be repeated every year. I think it would be a great experience to get to know myself and my country better.
