Stop buying things from Wal-Mart

Since I’ve moved in May, I’ve never had a need to go to Wal-Mart. I found an apartment right off the interstate and there is a variety of different stores around here that have everything I could need.

Everywhere else I’ve lived, Wal-Mart was the only store around. It sucked. :/ I’ve also worked at one… it was terrible.

I have done this for one month, no stepping foot into Walmart. It’s been fabulous! I’m planning to keep this up indefinitely, so I’m marking this as “done.” Totally worth it!

I believe it was called “Walmart. The High Cost of Doing Business.” I started looking around my apartment. Everything here is from Walmart or Sam’s Warehouse.
TV Console- Sam’s Warehouse
Computer Desk and Chair- Sam’s Warehouse
Floor Lamp- Sam’s
Desk Lamp- Walmart
File Cabinet- Sam’s
LCD Monitor- Walmart
UPS Battery- Sam’s
Plates and flatware- Walmart
Stapler- Walmart
Cable Modem- Walmart
Bulletin Board- Walmart
Waste basket- Walmart
VCR- Walmart
Clock- Walmart
Vaccume Cleaner- Walmart
Picture Frames- Walmart
Stool- Walmart
Digital Camera- Walmart
Office supplies and paper- mostly from Walmart

None of these things really cost that much. But when I think about how much “stuff” I buy at Walmart (including groceries) I start to understand how America sends $7 billion of our wealth overseas. Most of our trading partners aren’t even allies. One day we are going to wake up and Silkworm Missles will be more accurate than Tomahawk missles. China will have a nuclear carrier fleet parked 200 miles off our coast ready to bomb as far inland as Chicago. They will be using aircraft more advanced than our F-22’s and we will have only ourselves to blame.

There’s no greater zealot than the newly converted.

Starting today, I am not going to go to Wal-Mart for one month. Hopefully longer, but I’m going to start small. That place just causes way too much stress for me.

So, I made this as a new years resolution and it has really stuck. I think I have been twice in 7 months.
We had an Oddessy of the Mind emergency the same day I was throwing an Oscar Party so I caved in and went.
Other than that, I don’t even miss it really.
And ever since I stopped going to Wal Mart, I have money in my wallet. What’s that about?

today i got my makeup elsewhere!

today i needed construction paper.
i could have gone to wal-mart and gotten it for 50 cents.
but instead i settled for 100 sheets for 6 dollars!
but i figure, 100 sheets will last for the rest of eternity.
because i don’t use construction paper very often, at all.
so it’s not like i will be paying 6 bucks a week.

i am very happy with myself!
