I have been boycotting Walmart for, wow, at least seven years now. I hate their business practices – both the way they drive local shops out of business, and the ways they mistreat their workers, so I refuse to shop at any of their stores. The last time I shopped at a Walmart was on Halloween, 2005 – I was miles from home and needed a needle and thread to make a late-night repair, so we stopped at the only store that was open – Walmart. That was the last time, though (and prior to that, it had been a couple of years since I’d set foot in one of their stores).
Really, it’s not difficult at all for me, but I do live in a busy suburban area, so I have loads of other shopping options (including some low-price ones, although I do often make an effort to shop with small local businesses). 3 years ago
Not really even tempted except that they have really cheap fabric that I like to go play with. 3 years ago
Started over with the new year. Hope it sticks again. I hate that place!! 3 years ago
I told myself I’d boycott Wal-mart when I could afford it. Yeah, I’m a college student with parents drowning in this recession, but I feel like I need to act now. I honestly think I would spend less money if I stopped going there so often! 4 years ago
Since I’ve moved in May, I’ve never had a need to go to Wal-Mart. I found an apartment right off the interstate and there is a variety of different stores around here that have everything I could need.
Everywhere else I’ve lived, Wal-Mart was the only store around. It sucked. :/ I’ve also worked at one… it was terrible. 4 years ago
i hate Wal-Mart 4 years ago
How I did it: well it was not too much of a challenge. basically i always had my issues with walmart and their manual modern day slave labor, but after watching The High Cost of Low Price that pretty much confirmed it. Read how I did it… 5 years ago
I have done this for one month, no stepping foot into Walmart. It’s been fabulous! I’m planning to keep this up indefinitely, so I’m marking this as “done.” Totally worth it! 5 years ago
I believe it was called “Walmart. The High Cost of Doing Business.” I started looking around my apartment. Everything here is from Walmart or Sam’s Warehouse.
TV Console- Sam’s Warehouse
Computer Desk and Chair- Sam’s Warehouse
Floor Lamp- Sam’s
Desk Lamp- Walmart
File Cabinet- Sam’s
LCD Monitor- Walmart
UPS Battery- Sam’s
Plates and flatware- Walmart
Cable Modem- Walmart
Bulletin Board- Walmart
Waste basket- Walmart
Vaccume Cleaner- Walmart
Picture Frames- Walmart
Digital Camera- Walmart
Office supplies and paper- mostly from Walmart
None of these things really cost that much. But when I think about how much “stuff” I buy at Walmart (including groceries) I start to understand how America sends $7 billion of our wealth overseas. Most of our trading partners aren’t even allies. One day we are going to wake up and Silkworm Missles will be more accurate than Tomahawk missles. China will have a nuclear carrier fleet parked 200 miles off our coast ready to bomb as far inland as Chicago. They will be using aircraft more advanced than our F-22’s and we will have only ourselves to blame.

Starting today, I am not going to go to Wal-Mart for one month. Hopefully longer, but I’m going to start small. That place just causes way too much stress for me. 5 years ago
So, I made this as a new years resolution and it has really stuck. I think I have been twice in 7 months.
We had an Oddessy of the Mind emergency the same day I was throwing an Oscar Party so I caved in and went.
Other than that, I don’t even miss it really.
And ever since I stopped going to Wal Mart, I have money in my wallet. What’s that about? 5 years ago
today i got my makeup elsewhere! 5 years ago
today i needed construction paper.
i could have gone to wal-mart and gotten it for 50 cents.
but instead i settled for 100 sheets for 6 dollars!
but i figure, 100 sheets will last for the rest of eternity.
because i don’t use construction paper very often, at all.
so it’s not like i will be paying 6 bucks a week.
i am very happy with myself! 5 years ago
haha, haven’t gone to wal-mart yet! 5 years ago
i need to stop.
i get everything from wal-mart.
i would prefer not to, but i just don’t have the money to spend anywhere else?
i guess i just need to be smarter with my money.
and by no means does that mean shopping at wal-mart.
i am ashamed and embarrassed everytime i even consider going there. 5 years ago
I had a really bad Wal-Mart experience. I ended up screaming at the clerk, like four inches from his face. It was just the most amazing redneck display imaginable. I’m not normally like that.
I just couldn’t seem to stop myself. It’s like I saw myself doing it but just couldn’t seem to make myself stop doing it.
I have decided to eliminate some of the things that cause me more stress than there worth. Hence Walmart is out of there. This is going to be a huge temptation because our bank is in the Wal-mart. I know you say just get another bank. Thing is that I like our bank they cash our checks, and they don’t give us any shit. Then again they saw the display I bet I’m going to have to find another bank too.
Oh well..anyway Today is day one of my wal-mart free existance. 5 years ago
I made this resolution at the beginning of the new year and so far, so good. I have no need to shop at Wal Mart nor any desire. I just feel ill driving by the place. Support mom and pop businesses and your local/regional/national e-bay sellers. It means so much! I also started exclusively buying my groceries from Henry’s, and if I have to go to a big chain store, it’s Target. 5 years ago
it’s been forever since I’ve been to walmart, I think I’ve accomplished this goal. yay, I hate Walmart 6 years ago
but bought a tv there the other day because of the cost. I feel conflicted about doing but needed to save the money. 6 years ago
I stopped going to Walmart two years ago, and feel healthier for it! 6 years ago
Still no convenient grocery store, and still no big bank account, but I’m still taking a pass on shopping at Wal-Mart. 6 years ago
I stopped shopping at Wal-Mart a few years ago, but I just started looking to see where things are made. I tried to buy some ponytail holders today and every one of them were made in China! I am now trying NOT to buy anything from China.

I shamefully made one trip into a WalMart in February for emergency hand lotion when we were out in the ‘burbs somewhere meeting friends (and I thought my skin was going to split open). It was a hellish experience! Slow people everywhere, carts in the aisles, bad lighting, loud noises. Going in that store feels just like a panic attack, for me. I don’t want to ever go in another one again.
Of course, my consumer dollars will continue to be cancelled out by my grandmother, who loves shopping at “WalMart’s” in her small town, but I’ll do what I can, and I’ll enjoy my life a lot more knowing that my money’s not contributing to keeping that place in business. 6 years ago
I accomplished this goal a few years ago, but it’s worthwhile to note. For quite a while, the only thing I would buy there is some Brite floor cleaner (couldn’t find it anywhere else). Now, I moved to a home that has concrete floors and I don’t need the Brite anymore.
Whenever possible, I buy from local businesses. The revenue stays in the community and it helps my friends and neighbors.
Goodbye Walmart….forever!!! 6 years ago
Wal*Mart Free. 6 years ago
Never mind- can’t afford to get the fabric anyway. I’m still wal-mart free. 6 years ago
I’ve been good since I started this goal- but I need fabric, and can’t afford the time or the gas to drive the hour and a half to the nearest fabric store :’(
Stupid Wal Mart. 6 years ago
... To At Least Keep K-Mart open.
Wal*Mart wiped out all my favorite stores when it came to town, and it’s still doing damage. The thing that took the cake was when they wiped out the fabric store with their $1 a yard fabric and whatnot and now they’re getting rid of their entire fabric section only months after they went out of business. I live in a small area, and it’s beginning to look as though it’s all going to revolve around that stupid super-store.
