See five new musicals!

Terri and I went to go see Avenue Q at the Orange County Performing Arts center. It is one of her favorite musicals, if not her favorite. She had never seen it before, but she had the soundtrack memorized.

Avenue Q is just so much fun! It is absolutely hilarious. I laughed out loud so many times! The characters in the musical are puppets, which made it really unique. They were able to do some things that they wouldn’t have been able to do if the characters weren’t puppets. The sex scene with naked puppets comes to mind.

The overall plot is a 20something just out of college trying to figure out his “purpose.” One of the subplots is an uptight republican banker coming to terms with being gay, also told with much amusement.

My favorite songs, and this will also give a bit of the character of the musical, were “The Internet is for Porn” and “Everyone’s a little bit Racist”.

I’m really glad I went to see this musical and I’ll definitely go again the next time it is town!

I saw The Producers a few months ago. It was a Musical Theatre West Produciton and I really enjoyed it. I think my favorite songs/numbers were “Make It Gay” and the song with the accountants. My friend was surprising her girlfriend for her birthday and a bunch of us went. She didn’t know it was a gay play, but it was so fitting!

“Springtime for Hitler, and Germany…”

I might go see Avenue Q next, that would be fun!

Originially this goal was See More Musicals, but that was a bit vague, and I couldn’t really cross that off. So I decided to make the goal to see five new musicals, which means musicals I haven’t seen before.

Ideas are: Wicked, The Producers, and Hairspray. :)
