get a pay rise

The first time i haev ever asked for a pay rise in my life.
It was end of January this year… i was so nervous, but my boss was helpful. Although I did not get a pay rise- I asked at completely the wrong time, as the big economic crisis happened like a week after, and many of our offices closed and people were fired. so i was greatful enough to still have a job.
But i asked again last month. My position at the office is “executive assistant/ receptionist” I explained on how i would like to do more techincal work. work with the environmental team more and learn how to do GIS mapping and do external training at University etc to help out in the Enviro Side.
This was in favour to me… He told me that there was an opportunity coming in November for a Rise, and he would take it to his boss (the Regional Manager)
I called my boss in for a chat again yesterday and asked how he went. The regional manager is confident that i may get a pay rise, because of the technical work i am happy to do! he still has to take it to HIS boss (man there are too many bosses) and i should know by the end of this week! so Fingers crossed huh!

A new promotion vacancy has just come up at work. There are people there who deserve it much more than me as they’ve been working there longer and are also therefore very much more qualified and experienced and I feel like I’ll just be laughed at to go for it…

But on the other hand I ask myself ‘what would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?’ and yes, it turns out I would love the position.

Man, I HATE interviews :(

I’ve to do 7 exams and 1 assignment for my payrise and certificate at work.

It was doubtful I’d get a raise at the company I was at, and given the job security there(the owners just liquidated a sister company) I got a job at elsewhere!

Being a newbie here i added this to my list of things before looking to see how you have all felt about it, the resounding “not worth doing” is making me nervous.

My boss is definatley a * and asking for a payrise my be like giving her permission to make my working day a misery.
Should I wait until the end of my first 12ths for a regular appaisal or ask now 8mths into my job?

No pay rises at interim reviews :-( Apparently I have to wait till a full review, which is this Nov.

Well, I got a pay rise, but it was not anything like what I wanted – $2/hour only – it could be worse. At least I have the job still!

was only 25p but still every penny counts.
