visit my old high school

My high school (SAIL) had about 250 kids total, 90 or so in my graduating class. Everyone knew everyone and because of the small classes we were all really close with our teachers. Since I graduated I send the staff a fruit basket every year but I have been too embarassed to visit because I’ve gained so much weight. This December, even if I don’t lose any more weight this year (20 pounds so far) I will deliver the basket myself and reconnect with that place and with the people who gave me so much and ask for nothing in return.

Hmmm… I am visiting home and I don’t usually do that on weekdays…

I’m making a surprise visit home for Thanksgiving, it would be a great opportunity… Unless the school is closed for the holiday… We’ll see.

I enjoyed my visit just about a year after I graduated, and that visit was definitely worth it. So 4 years later I tried visiting again, and I was sorely disappointed. Many of my teachers had moved on to other positions, and the few I went to see didn’t show much enthusiasm. Maybe if I came after school, rather than between classes, they would be less rushed and more enthusiastic? But it’s a moot point anyway, all of my favorite teachers have left by now. Sad.

I am really looking forward to my high school reunions, though.

I wasn’t really close to many teachers but I know it would brighten their day if I visited. I haven’t done this in years. I remember when I was in high school thinking that it was really cool when people who had graduated dropped by. I’ll let them know they can get out of there. I’d like to lose some weight before I visit…
