    Soon! 2 years ago

Nearest group serves every Wednesday at 12 and Saturday at 4. Hopefully I’ll get a hold of the guy in charge this week.

soup for NYC 2 years ago

My school’s art club had a food not bombs drive, and they have a trip planned this weekend to the nyc fnb kitchen to cook up for people in a park, so I’m going to try and go with them.

I like to cook for people and will be satisfied knowing this food is going to help people hopefully I can make somebody’s day with my famous black bean soup!!

...but a good service to the community 2 years ago

It was good to be back. I told them that I won’t be back next week, but I’m not going to wait 7 months before I come again (as I previously did). It was hard to motivate myself to actually show up today. I went 90 minutes after it started, but still spent 3.5 hours on the task. It’s odd being there. It’s a small group of people that are more similar to one another than I am to them and that hang out with one another outside of FNB. I think I don’t like it more b/c I don’t connect to the ppl I volunteer with, but they’re friendly and we’re doing a good thing. Also, I’m not good at just knowing what to do and often find myself doing much of nothing while I’m there. I’m gonna go again, as I said I would, but I may also visit a different soup kitchen to see what I think of it. I’m also not impressed by my helpfulness during the Wednesday night dinners at church. Maybe I’m just not cut out for soup kitchens. Each FNB is different and I encourage everyone who’s interested to check out your local chapter. Serving the hungry people downtown actually made the whole situation worth it. I guess I went to FNB seeking community and I don’t think I’ll find it there… not for me. Examining the program itself, I give it two thumbs up.

save the date 2 years ago

I have a date set: November 25th. We’ll see. It’s the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I was kindda thinking that maybe some regulars will be missing since it’s a holiday weekend and I can take their spot.

I’ve done this before. Really, what I want to do is go back. I’ve been saying that for a while now. My goal is to make it before the end of October… unless that changes to November. I’m hoping that putting it on this list will help me remember that I plan to do it one week and that I’ll actually go.

So VERY worth it 3 years ago

This is absolutely, without doubt, worth it. Then again, I’ve volunteered with one of the most committed and long-term FNBs I’ve ever seen, with some of the most amazing people.

It’s not about service. It’s about justice. And people being able to eat.
