This is something I have been wanting to do for the last 5 years. Someday, before 5 more years pass, I hope to be able to tick this one of.

How to hike the inca trail to machu pichu"It's a trek of my lifetime. It's not just a trail. It's symbolic for my will to pursue my dream."
How I did it: I went with Gap.ca. You need to book a tour to trek on the inca trail. GAP is good. Or if you want a list of local operator you can check out http://www.peru.info. Lessons & tips: I did 4 days trek. The last day was easy just to get to Machu Picchu.

bought the airfare and sent a request to book the trek through www.perutreks.com. can’t wait.
Crowds nowadays tramp that trail. Macchu Picchu is being reconstructed in a very touristy and questionable way, the place is no more mysterious and adventurous.
I’d rather go somewhere else unknown to the masses.
Starting in Cusco the next 4 days of hiking were gruelling but worth it. We were in a group of 13 people from all walks and we loved every step of the hike. Reaching the top of Dead Woman’s Pass on the trail marks a key point in the hike and the wonders of walking into Machu Picchu at sunrise is a reward worth the hard work – be sure to get a company which is sound both on the local communities and the environmental aspects of the trail…we used Peru Treks (which I highly recommend) – Enjoy.
i’m leaving for peru in 36 days, 5 hours and 26 minutes! after 2 days in cuzco upon arrival we’re heading to km 82 and up the trail.
we’ve been planning this for months and months and we’re pretty much set. but i do have one thing i’m concerned about – glasses vs. contacts. i normally wear my glasses in everyday situations, but i’m worried about protecting my eyes from the sun. how does the altitude affect wearing contacts?
Celeste put the idea of hiking the Inca trail when I visited her in Buenos Aires last year. She says the government in Peru is considering closing off the trail to the public because of environmental concerns. I would like to climb the trail and see Machu Picchu before I lose the right to do so.
My friend Babette is climbing the trail as I write this. As soon as she returns from Peru, I am going to grill her about the experience. If she has positive things to say about it, I’m going to organize a trip for 2008.
Tickets are bought and I’m all set. My first vacation since being employed. It has it’s perks :)
