How to be overwhelmed by beauty
How I did it: I've been making a conscious effort to be more present in each moment and to recognize the beauty inherent in each moment - the motes of dust in sunlight, the birds alighting on a telephone wire, a seed cracking open in the dirt... But it's music usually that brings all of my years of existence into focus and sometimes bubbles up into tears of joy and sorrow - call it the sublime - for the terrible beauty of it all.
Bruce Springsteen's "City of Ruins" gets me just about everytime at the Rise Up! chorus, as does Iron & Wine's "Jesus the Mexican Boy" in the last stanza, "Naked the Judas in me / Fell by the tracks as he lifted me high / Kissing my head like a brother / And never asking why"
