since its only 63 degrees at my job now. I’m told it’s often in the upper 50s in the winter. Amazingly, i do not work outdoors. I am at a desk on the first floor of a horribly remodeled house/office.

i slump a lot. i also feeling bummed most of the time, either about personal stuff or how crappy things are in the world, etc. gee i wonder if they are related?
My Nana used to remind me to “sit up straight/stand up straight” when i was a young girl. At the time i thought it was annoying. I miss her telling me now.
Sorry Nana, i’ll try to remember more often.

Found a good exercise to strenghthen the midback. I don’t know if I can describe it well enough in words, but I’ll try:
Hold your arms out at your sides, bent, with elbows down and hands upward, so that your arms and body form a W shape. Bring your elbows in and down, towards your body, and bring your shoulderblades down and together. Relax and raise your arms to starting position. Repeat about 10 times daily.
When those muscles start to get stronger, you’ll automatically straighten your back.

I don’t know if this is just me, or not…
But, every time I read this goal, I sit up straight.
The end.

I’ve been sitting up straight at work all day so far. I think I injured my back while doing some hardcore abs last night. I need to sit up straight so that my back won’t hurt. Either way, working on my stomach a lot lately has really helped with my posture. The added muscle tone basically makes me want to support myself.

Work it baby.

Working out and doing a lot of stomach crunches has definitely helped with this. It’s hard though because I sit at a computer…all…day…long…

I used to slouch hardcore before, and after doing this one simple trick for a variable amount of time (because it may be different for everyone), I now sit up straighter than I ever did before.
All you need to do is contract your abdominal muscles when you sit. This, by default, straightens your back. Even if you let your shoulders slouch, your back will still be straighter than if you did not contract your abs.
After this, I worked on pulling my shoulder blades back. After catching yourself slouching and correcting yourself x times, it will become automatic, then you won’t even need to correct because you’ll be doing it all the time. :)

cause oh so many problems. I have to fight the tendency to “relax” and find a way to remind my self ti sit up straight.
BTW I noticed that when you sit up straight you look much more thiner. :)
