    Finally! 5 months ago

I have my temporary crown on now…many hours of drilling and 3 or 4 big-ass shots later. It looks so much better.

Final crown appointment in 3 weeks.

My first non-emergency dentist visit in about 17 years! 7 months ago

So I had my consultation/cleaning/x-ray appointment today.

The bad news (which I already knew): I need a root canal.

The good news (which shocked me): I have only 1 cavity!

The amazing news: Because of the root canal being on the same tooth that needs the cosmetic work, the dentist’s office says I can get the insurance company to cover a crown. Which means my cosmetic and my health dental issues are going to be sort of rolled into one, and COVERED! This will make the overall cost quite reasonable.

I have an appointment for the root canal at the end of march, and all my other work should be able to be done in the few weeks following that one. This “yellow tooth” has been such a psychological burden, and the fix is so close and so simple. And may be cheaper than I ever imagined.

    Yay!

I called the dentist today, thinking that it would take half a month just to get my appointment for the consultation.

“Tomorrow at three work for you?” she said.

Wow. I know the appointment to get the actual work done may take much longer, but now I have the wheels in motion. That was a little too easy.

The X-Rays will surely reveal that I have need for a root canal, which I’ve known a very long time. So now that I have insurance I can get both my cosmetic and my health related dental issues solved, and the first step is tomorrow’s appointment.

I am a little scared of how many cavities I might have. I haven’t had preventative dental work done since I was about 16 or 17. No insurance.

This is good progress on a goal that I’ve been thinking about for over four years and just been too broke to make a step on. Yay!

I am going to call a dentist next week to begin this pursuit. I will begin with a check up, a cleaning, and a consultation. I am going to try and get that taken care of this month. Then, the entire month of April I will set aside money to pay for what insurance will not. I will try and have the work done in early May.

Finally, little kids are going to stop asking me why I “have a yellow tooth!”
