Took my first lesson. The instructor was fantastic. He was very encouraging, easy to follow, and a great leader. Salsa, well basic Salsa, is so much easier than I thought. I don’t think I’ll go past the basic classes since I only really want to be able to dance competently in clubs, but even learning the turns was great fun. It got very hot in the space while dancing. I will dress in lighter clothing next time. I have 1 more class, 2 practice sessions, and 2 private lessons left. 3 months ago

I did 6 months of weekly classes during 2012, along with weekly social dancing which I will continue. I might go to classes every once in a while, but don’t think I will continue it on a regular basis. I love to salsa dance, but I don’t quite have the coordination to become anything spectacular at it. Anyway, I love the social aspect and have made lots of new friends and even introduced one of my other friends to the scene.
I’m a terribly follower which I think is because in the beginners classes a lot of the men were bad at leading, so it was something that we all needed to focus on improving. I know where my weaknesses lie with the dance and think that some private classes will help me to become a better dancer in the long term.
It’s lots of fun and I’m so pleased that I made the effort to go along to the classes in the beginning. The hardest part is over, it’s all fun from here! 5 months ago

Last night at my salsa class I graduated from the beginners to the intermediate class.
I still feel rather clumsy, but when I was watching the new beginners class I started to notice how far I’ve come along over the past 8 weeks.
My old dance partner was thrown out of the class for being a sleazy creeper, unfortunately some people are only in the class to see what sort of action they can get. Thankfully the new class seems great, I think the weed out the weirdos at the beginning! 11 months ago

I joined up to the local school today and had my first class. I’m so happy I decided to go ahead with it. There was only 1 other beginner in the class, so it was almost like having a private lesson.
I now have a dance partner who is a massive 7ft tall 50yr old Scandinavian with about as much grace as a buffalo. He’s already invited me out dancing with a group of people next week after class, so I might soon also have a social life!
I look forward to the day I’m not a clumsy beginner anymore. 13 months ago

I’ve found beginner classes in my town and I’ve arranged to go to my first class tomorrow. It’s an 8 week course which will run until the end of June.
I’m so excited! I have no doubt in my mind that my two left feet are oing to cause me to look like a goofball. I also have no doubt that I will inevitably be paired up with some 4ft tall, bald, sleezy 50 year old… but I don’t care!
I just want to learn to Salsa! 13 months ago

I’m very active in the dance community. I’m a teacher of
dance, and a student of dance. I keep a blog for people who
would like to keep current and who may need info on ways
to learn to dance the Salsa. All are welcome.
