The entry I wrote for this goal is exactly how it transpired. Less than $100, and I have a townie/touring bike that feels great on the road. Comfortable seating position, nice hard road tires, and this one’s even got fenders and racks if I ever want to do a longer tour. Plus it’s ugly enough that I don’t have to worry about it getting ripped off.

I picked up a 10-year-old Giant touring/roadbike in decent shape for $15 at a thrift shop. I figure that for less than a hundred bucks, I should be able to put a flat handlebar and new shifters on it (old ones shot, but the derailleurs are fine) and have a workable bike for cruising around the backroads and going uptown.
Its been sitting in my apartment for 5 months waitin for me to give it some lovin.
