My beloved’s home city is pronounced kind of like “loo-we-oo” with emphasis on the we.

So v in english looks like B in Ukrainian and sounds like w. Simple. :P

The days of the week are hard! 14 months ago

They sound roughly like this:
Monday – ponygeeloc
Tuesday – vivtoroc
Wednesday – cereda
Thursday – chetlar
Friday – pyatnyitzya
Saturday – subota
Sunday – naygeelya

I can’t 100% claim I’ve learned all of those…I can randomly remember any one of them and be 80% sure of which day it is I’m saying, and have NO clue how to write them. The Ukraine alphabet is a mystery to me.

Dobrogo rancun – good morning
dobry vechir – good evening
dobry noiche – good night
pan – Mr.
panyi – Mrs.

Of course all the spelling is wrong, this is just how it sounds to me.

Wow, I'm surprised 14 months ago

so many other people want to do this too. Here’s what I’ve learned so far: one two three SOUNDS like odn dwa try and cheese SOUNDS like sid. There are 33 letters in Ukrainian alphabet and 18 of them rhyme. The letter P sounds like R. X and b both sound really crazy to me. :)

(I like a Ukrainian boy, that’s why I’m learning.) ;)

I just started this morning, using the Pimsleur series. It’s been extremely effective so far. As of now, I can say “Excuse me. Are you Ukrainian?” and “Yes, Ukrainian. And you?”. This is my first time learning a new language, so it’s quite an exciting experience.
