help out with the 4-H horse project

I’m hoping that once we get moved, I can put up an arena and start giving some lessons. Maybe I can get a couple kids that are in 4-H and get involved that way.

I spent most of my teenage years on a horse, and though I loved 4-H, there were some very bad attitudes in the horse project – “Winning is the goal. Nothing else matters”. Therefore the emphasis was on buying the best horse you could get rather than working with your horse to be the best you could be. I can’t stand that attitude, and it’s so contrary to the whole point of 4-H. I’d like to get involved and help out the kids who, like me, couldn’t afford the professional show horse and love their horses too much anyway to give them up just to get a better show horse. I want to help them learn to have fun competing. The main problem right now is that the snobbiest girl there was in the horse project is helping with it now, and I want nothing to do with her. Maybe in a few years she’ll be gone. Then I can get in there and help to make it more fun and change a few bad attitudes.
