learn how to hula hoop

I’ve got my fiance wanting to hula hoop with me :) We looked at hoop tape today and plan on buying some to make our own hoops.

Yay! I bought the tubing and connectors to make me & my fiance hula hoops. It costs about $47 at Home Depot. Yikes! You have to buy the tubing in 100’ rolls which means I’ll have enough to make about 8 hoops. I think. Now, I just have to buy the tape which will probably cost even more than the tubing. I better learn how to hoop after all of this! I would like to actually make a hobby out of this and be able to hoop and do tricks as well as SaFire. It would be cool to flame hoop or use an LED hoop. Next step, buy tape.

She actually makes a living hooping! She does really cool fire hooping that is amazing to me and one of her videos shows lots of cool people with LED hoops which are about $100 a hoop. Or, they might just be glow-in-the-dark tape, but either way, it’s cool. I didn’t know that there are so many tricks and dances that you can do with hoops. I think I’ll make my own instead of buying one because it looks like a fun project and maybe I’ll want to make more in the future. One roll of tubing will make about 8 hoops, but costs about $40, not to mention buying the tape. I found a great site for hooping tape. It’s identi-tape.com. It just sucks having to pay shipping and the prices aren’t that good, but it’s the best selection I’ve seen.

I think it would be so cool to make my own hula hoop after watching the instructional videos on youtube. Well, I checked prices at Lowe’s yesterday. The PVP tubing for 3/4” 160 PSI was about $40 for 100’. They don’t stock smaller rolls of the tubing. I found a 6-pack of colored vinyl tape, but there was only 20’/roll for about $5 a pack. I only plan on making 1 hoop for now, so maybe I’ll look elsewhere. I looked at hoops at Toy’s R Us, but they were kid size (of course) and looked extremely cheap after seeing some of these nicer hoops online.

I just got through surfing the web a bit and didn’t realize how many sites are dedicated to hooping! Youtube even has videos that teach you how to make your own hoop! I would so love to make my own. I just realized through these sites that the reason I am having such a hard time hooping is because my hoop is too small. The sources say that the hoop should be between your belly button and your nipples. Gee, mine comes to my crotch because it is a child’s hoop. No wonder! They say that bigger hoops are easier! I thought the opposite was true. Well, I think I’m gonna try to make my own hoop. It looks fun! Most of the stuff I can get at Lowe’s or Home Depot, but I’m not sure about gaffers tape.

I’ve dappled into this goal a bit. I found some awesome youtube videos for assistance. There are even some cool tutorials that teach hula hoop tricks. One day! This seems like such an easy goal to some people I’m sure, but it doesn’t come easy to me. When I was young it was easy?! I can’t even get it to stay up long to record any progress!

I am practicing all of the time – and I am soooo close. It has gone around 5 times now. I think this goal will be accomplished if I can get the hoop around 10 times.

I have been practicing and practicing but have yet to keep my hula hoop around my waist! I think I need help…

This week end I was at Carvin near Lille in France juggling convention and I learnt hula hoop.
