Sold the lamp! 9 months ago

One woman agreed to buy it, and then sent me a bunch of emails, asking what was wrong with it. I answered, nothing, but she didn’t want to believe that I would sell a perfectly good lamp with no problems for only $5, so on the day she was supposed to come, she called and cancelled.

Happily, two others had expressed interest, so I sold it to the second person who had emailed me. I’m sure it was worth more than $5 but, honestly, it makes me happy that it will go to a home of someone who will point to it and say, “wow, look at this awesome lamp I got for only 5 bucks!”

I know that I have a very special love for things around my house that I bought for not much money; I hope she’ll love this lamp for years and be proud that she got it for a bargain.

    YAY!

Just posted an ad on Craigslist! 9 months ago

Going to try to sell a lamp that works perfectly for $5. Hope someone takes me up on it. It doesn’t “go” with my decor but it’s in perfect condition and is pretty and vintage and it makes me happy to think of someone giving it new life and enjoying it instead of buying a new, made-in-China, plastic piece of junk.

    Let’s see what happens!

Ebay U.S. is amazing. 10 months ago

But EbayCanada sucks. It seems that ebay really hasn’t caught on here, which I don’t understand. Should I try selling on ebay here? Or, always just wait ‘til I leave next travel to the US, and sell on the US site? Any suggestions?

Exchange and goods have changed hands. 10 months ago

It was a great experience. I’m travelling now, but upon my return home, I’ll have to snoop around to see what I can sell next…

Well, the auction ended. 11 months ago

And I made $143.50 and the guy is going to come and pick it up, so he can save on shipping and I can save a trip to the post office! Will write one more entry about this, after the exchange has been made; when money and goods change hands.

But, this was an exciting thing for me and I look forward to selling more items!

    Holy cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11 months ago

My first ebay listing is about to end in one hour and it looks as though I’m going to be making more than $100 on it! For 2 items in my house that I wasn’t using, that weren’t of much value to me: pretty cool, non?

Making money makes me happy, but it also really pleases me to think that these 2 items will be going to someone who really values them and, for whatever reason, thinks they’re worth this much. So much better than going to a garbage dump!

Eeeeee! Very exciting! 11 months ago

With the help of my lovely boyfriend, I put my first listing on Ebay last night. So far, no one has bid on it, but I have my fingers crossed. Let’s see how it goes!

I hope that I’ll get in the habit of both taking things to charity shops for sale, but also making a bit of money now and then by selling things on ebay. That would strike a nice balance, I think.

Honestly, it's hard to do 17 months ago

I could use the money. But, I feel really good when I donate stuff to the Salvation Army thrift store. Even things I know I could get a lot of money for on Ebay, like a pair of rarely-used Jimmy Choo shoes. I can imagine someone finding them at the thrift store and it just making their day! I also know that the Salvation Army uses the money they earn from the thrift store for programs that help people in need.

So, while I could use the money from the sale of my items, it’s both easier and, in some ways, more rewarding to donate them.

Well, haven't yet done this. 21 months ago

BUT, I have taken another car-load of boxes to the Salvation Army. Makes me feel good to support a charity and, perhaps, save many items from the Landfill.

I have a lot of "stuff." 23 months ago

I’ve donated more than 10 car-fulls to the local Salvation Army thrift store this year, but I’d love to make a bit of money off some of my more expensive items. I’ve never sold anything on ebay or Craig’s list before but I think it would be satisfying to get a bit of money back for various belongings.
