I finally set up a Pinterest account and am finding all sorts of cool stuff. I’ve got 4 boards so far, and they are rapidly growing!
Verdict: Very cool site. I’m going to learn so much from it. Definitely a good idea. 1 month ago
What knitter refuses to use DPN’s? Me, that’s who.
I should clarify that a bit. I didn’t refuse them, because I wanted to. I refused them, because no matter how I tried, everytime I used them I ended up with ladders between all of the needles. So I put them away and went back to using Magic Loop to make socks, sleeves, finish hats, mittens, etc. I enjoy Magic Loop. It’s a great technique. But in the back of my mind, I wished I had the option of using double-points, as well.
Yesterday I had the hankering to yank those dpn’s out of my needle box and practice using them. Well, I don’t know what the difference was, but this time it just clicked. First, I practiced with worsted weight yarn. Then I tried it with tinier yarn. No ladders!!!
Verdict: YAY! Really happy to have another knitting tool to add to my arsenal. 3 months ago
41. Went to a colonial festival
At Mount Vernon. The similarities and differences to a renfest were interesting.
42. Drew on vellum
I had to do this for a class. I don’t like using expensive drawing surfaces, because there is too much pressure to get things just right.
43. Turned into a hermit
There was a ten day window last summer where I was not in classes and my housemates were on vacation. Barring walking the dog, I left the house three times and said maybe five sentences or so. And I ate an entire cheesecake by myself along with two gallons of ice cream.
44. Deliberately went out into a tornado storm
Awesome, but not recommended.
45. Went to a haunted forest
This was a lot of fun last October. Of course I didn’t read the warnings until I got there and had paid for my ticket so I didn’t realize that there would be strobe-lighting ahead of time (i’m a photosensitive epileptic).
End result, I can truthfully say that I’ve run through strange woods at night with my eyes shut being chased by a mask wearing man with a chainsaw. 3 months ago
This was one of those things that I never really had an opinion of either way. I never doubted the benefits that people claim, yet it wasn’t something I ever felt that I needed to do. My doc decided I should have this treatment once a week for four consecutive weeks, and yesterday was my first treatment. They stuck needles in me at very specific points then hooked me up to some sort of electricity-conducting box to stimulate the needles. Unfortunately, I had to lie very still, so I couldn’t see at all what was happening. My boyfriend watched though and told me it was pretty cool. It felt like someone was lightly tapping my skin. Didn’t hurt but didn’t really feel amazing either. The acupuncturist told me I’d see results as the treatment progressed. I hope so.
Verdict: I’m glad I experienced it, because I do believe it is something many people find relief with. As of the first treatment, I’ve witnessed no change; but I will continue and see what happens. 6 months ago

41) Balti
It wouldn’t be Birmingham without balti, I have been told. So I couldn’t leave the city without trying it. Wiki says that some people believe it was invented in Birmingham. Well, the people who live in the city seem to have no doubts about it. :D
Eating in an Indian restaurant itself was very new to me but balti, oh my god, how do I cook this?! It was incredible and I ate so much, I felt like I was going to give birth to triplets.
I’m going to have to ask about the other stuff I had cause I don’t remember the names at all. 9 months ago
40) Vegemite
Thanks koibito_k8 for recommending it to me, it sure was quite an experience.
It turns out it isn’t sold just in Australia – people in Britain seem to like it.
Well.. I don’t. :D 9 months ago
Not through choice but I just experienced my first ever power cut. I found out that we are really really not prepared for anything. No torch, not many candles. Nothing. It was kind of fun though :) 9 months ago
Yup, every bit as awesome and gross as it sounds. My new favorite technique for joining in a new skein of (animal-sourced) yarn when knitting.
It makes knitting a sweater a heck of a lot easier…and no ends to weave in!
Verdict: One of the best ideas ever 10 months ago
I’ve never been very good at being domestic. I thought it was anti-feminist. That’s what happens when you’re 22, idealistic, and impressionable. Ah, those were the days.
Now that I’m 32, I no longer think this way. I knit and crochet; I want to learn to sew; I enjoy making our apartment home-y and cozy. Baking was the next logical step.
I had a hankering for blueberry pie recently, but since I wanted it in a hurry I settled for blueberry cobbler instead. This is the recipe I used:
http://everydaypaleo.com/2010/06/18/blackberry-cobbler/
I’ve made it a few times since, and it’s now practically a staple in our household. Picked up some more berries at the market yesterday, so I’ll make another batch very soon.
Verdict: Kinda cool. I’ll definitely continue baking new things. 10 months ago
We went to Roots (a huge farmer’s market) yesterday. I had never been there before. Stocked up on pastured eggs and gorgeous produce. Even splurged on some homemade butter – so creamy and delicious! I saw a sign for chocolate-covered bacon and knew it had to happen. What can I say? It was yummy. The combo of the sweet and salty flavors was fantastic. I don’t eat sugar usually, so this isn’t something I’ll eat often (I only ate one bite, and KJ ate the rest). But all in all, good stuff, indeed.
Verdict: Delicious! 10 months ago

I just sold my first hat! A guy that my dude works with asked him if I’d sell him a hat, after seeing one that I had made for my bf. I told him “sure” and got to work. I found a skein of a gorgeous varigated blue Bernat chunky yarn on clearance for $2.50. The hat turned out beautifully. He loved it, although he said it is a little loose. In fact, he loved it so much he requested another one! This time I’ll get a head measurement to be more accurate; last time I just gauged to make a 22” circumference, which I had read is average for a male.
I’m super excited, and I really hope people continue to buy my stuff.
Verdict: Unequivocally, a great idea 11 months ago

We planted some herbs, carrots, lettuce, spinach, kale, cucumbers, and even some pumpkins. I’m really hoping we get some pumpkins for autumn. We’re starting to see a lot of little shoots sticking out of the ground, so I’m getting excited to watch our garden grow. 11 months ago
I haven’t worn shorts in public since I was a kid. I guess I didn’t like how my legs looked in them or didn’t want people looking at me. Whatever. Now that I’m in my 30’s I think I’ve reached a point where I don’t give a s#@t what anyone thinks of me. I wore shorts outside today. The sun and wind against my skin felt fantastic! I can’t believe I was such an idiot for so many years. It is truly liberating to not care what other people think and to love myself, “imperfections” and all.
Verdict: Terrific idea, freeing, and I should have done it sooner 12 months ago
