are in full swing!
I started to participate by purchasing a toy each time I went shopping at Target (Marine Corps Toys for Tots). After donating a super cool set of Matchbox cars and a Barbie, I started to think about my choices and if they really reflected what I believe in and such.
I decided not. Kids naturally like to be active, and sometimes really lack the Equipment to do so…
So, I’d like to encourgae people to donate things like:
Soccer Balls
Mitts
Sports bras for teen girls
Footballs
Basketballs!!!
Jump Ropes
Swim Goggles/swim fins
Bikes/Trikes/things that Go!
Helmets and pads for activities
I had two concerns with this goal.
One: many items are expensive. And some people didn’t budget that much for a donation.
I decided even with a budget there are some fun “active toys”
Such as Nerf Balls,
Jump Ropes
Frisbees
tennis balls
Sidewalk chalk (Outside and creative!)
Secondly I was concerned about kids who live in neighbourhoods that may not be safe for outdoor play.
In this case, I think I will try to donate Nerf toys that can be used inside. as well as Jump Ropes, or things like the “Bella Dancerella” and “Dance with Dora” DVD’s.
I’ve always donated at the toy drive, but now I feel more excited about it. I really feel like I am promoting healthy behaviors while spreading cheer.
If I have enough money from my nexst paycheck I am going to try to get one child a real bicycle….
