i’ve never been out of the country [out of n. america] not even to canada or mexico. i was raised in reno nevada for a little while and developed a mild case of polar bear skin [sometimes i really like the cold… i would walk around in the snow in a t-shirt] but i don’t know a damn thing about canada…
ok i take that back… here is what i know…
[prepares to be slapped by some canadian she doesn’t know]
1. lots of comedians, actors and musicans [artists… whatever! pukes on celine dion excuse me] were born there…
2. a great majority of the country speaks french
3. maple syrup and hockey are both good things
4. marijuana is legal [i literally used to tell people that one day i would move to canada just so i could be an old granny sitting on my porch smoking a joint and wave at the cops…er, mounties?]
5. they have a parliment… [which means nothing to me since i’m american and I obviously didn’t pay attention in history class]
6. it snows there and there are mooses… [both of which are awesome…]
7. the charecters on South Park have already “taken care of” the baldwins [ i just couldn’t help that one… i’m laughing so hard right now]
sht, what else do i know… i’m trying to make it to 10… ;>.>
8. they have an ok-sized asian population, which means decent asian food
9. health care!!!
10. they get to sht on N. america… without really getting involved with anything they’re doing… and get away with it!

I was supposed to receive a letter yesterday informing me that I had to take a citizenship test on April 6th (2009, not 2010). Gee… looks like I could be a Canadian soon.

Yesterday I received a package in the post, acknowledging receipt of my application and informing me that the usual processing time is 12 – 15 months. Absolutely disgraceful, and I have to wonder how productively my tax dollars are being spent. Anyway in the meantime they suggest I read the included booklet about Canada in preparation for my citizenship exam. Isn’t that exciting!

The application is in, and the fees are paid, but still no word from the feds after 4 months… not even a note to say my application was received. I should call them to get their asses on the case.

I finally became eligible in June to become a Canadian citizen. I originally hadn’t taken into account all the time I had spent outside of Canada, which pushed things back a lot.
I wasn’t sure about whether or not I wanted to apply for a while, because I felt like I was perhaps getting my citizenship for the wrong reasons. I want to get it so I can move back to the U.S. if I want, but still be able to easily return to Canada.
So, I felt torn on what to do for a while. But, I’ve printed my application and I’m going to apply. I know my reasons might not be as honorable as others, but it’s why I’m doing it and I’m not going to make a big deal of it. I just want to get it and not have to worry about immigration crap ever again.

Here is a website
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
or you can call 1-800-O-CANADA toll free from the US and Canada. For other countries, you’ll have to go to http://www.canada.gc.ca to find the number.
This is just on my to-do list, I’m currently a landed immigrant/permanent resident and my paperwork expires next year. Rather than re-apply, I want to apply for dual citizenship (since they have changed the laws and I no longer am required to denounce my current citizenship – I can keep both and my kids will all be dual citizenshiped by birthright). It’s just going to cost me another $200 and I don’t quite have the cash right now from being unemployed from having a baby recently.

My daughter is 26, and she and I want to move to Canada. I have taken all those assessment tests and been hit up for $350 a pop, and got no information on how you stay in Canada while you get these resident visas. So would somebody please tell us, can we just go get an apartment in Canada and stay there and fill out the papers, and what’s the first thing we should do when we get there? Go run to some office and get what? We need somebody to write a simple 1, 2, 3, guideline for us. We all feel the same I’m sure, so let’s get organized. Where do the ex-pats go in the Windsor area? Should we just go to Vancouver vs. Ontario? I’m sending for my grandkids as soon as I can. In fact, I’m sending for everybody’s grandkids, cause this is getting ridiculous down here. I don’t see any end in sight, except more of the same. Nothing is ever going to change here, so lets get the heck out of Dodge.
