In the past five or so days, I’ve written a fair amount of a song, and come up with basic melodies and chords for the verse, pre-chorus, and chorus. Too bad the chorus sounds almost exactly like a song I had just heard hours earlier. I had a feeling something like that was happening, but it sounded good so I kept it. I need to compare them closely and decide if there needs to be a change. But it’s a really good melody.

But yeah, this one is coming right along, almost at the pace I set about a year ago. It’s pretty exciting. The piano part has a lot of kinks to work out. In fact, the piano part is mostly made of kinks. It’s nice to actually feel inspired to write by a band (from which I stole the melody, sorry), namely We The Living, and I’ll be seeing them live tomorrow, so maybe I’ll be even more inspired after that. I also need to remember to sing every day so my vocal chords get some exercise. I don’t think many people have that problem, but I just don’t want anyone to hear me…

I wrote a song for a class last year and loved it. I spent more time writing than doing anything else, and it was close to finals week so I know there was other stuff to do. One thing that helped me write efficiently was the deadline that was set, as I had to perform the song on a set date (or at least someone had to, but I took it as a chance to debut my piano playing and singing career). So I decided that I should have two songs written by the end of my winter break, which effectively ends on Jan. 3.

I know I have the time required to get them done, but it doesn’t help that I “don’t sing,” meaning it’s not my M.O., and changing that fits into one of my other goals, so it’s kind of a big deal. I guess I’ve been putting that challenge off by delaying my writing… or something like that.
