I started singing in groups in 1991, when I attempted to get flute lessons at my community college. Choir was convening and the director wasn’t listening. Or maybe he chose to ignore me. “You’re a tenor. We only have one tenor. Go stand next to George.” “But, I’m not here for the…” “We don’t have all day. Go.”
I’m so glad he did that. I was in his choir groups for two years, went on to perform in very large and very small vocal ensembles. When I moved to California six years ago, I left it all behind. I miss it very badly.
If you ever thought about doing this, you should go for it. Where else do you get to croon ballads at cute people in rehearsal?
