I want to revisit now that I have money and more confidence travelling alone. Some of my best roommates have been Japanese.
when i went to the philippines my layover was in Japan…and I loved it! now I need to take a vacation there..not just for one day.
I’m off to the airport in about 5 hours. No use trying to get a lot of sleep tonight. With the time change ahead, it’s best if I get as much sleep as I can on my flights. I should be touching down at Narita 24 hours from now and be with my daughters just in time for dinner Friday evening.
For just 92 cents a day more, I was able to upgrade from a compact car to an intermediate (Chrysler Sebring) for three days in Honolulu. The total cost with taxes will be under $100. I’ve got wheels!
And confirmed my stay in Hawaii on the return trip. I still need to book a rental car, and I guess parking is going to be a bit of a challenge, as her apartment building has no overnight spaces, but I’ll figure it out. Only 10 more days till I fly.
I submitted a request for 12 days off (8 days + two weekends) and it was approved on the spot. Although I do not have enough vacation/personal time accrued right now, I will by the time I depart, so I will not lose any income as a result of the trip, other than commission opportunities I’ll have to make up in the weeks before/after. I’ll be staying with family, so I won’t need a room. Now all I need to do is save up spending money and perhaps book a rental car for the Hawaii portion. Tokyo has great public transport, but I think I’ll enjoy Honolulu more with a set of wheels at my disposal.
I purchased my ticket online at nwa.com. I will depart from Las Vegas at 9:30am on Thursday, March 22 and arrive at Narita after a short stop in Seattle at 4:55pm on Friday 3/23. I’ll have a full week to visit with my daughters in Tokyo, then I’ll hop a 8:30pm flight that will put me in to Hawaii at about 8:30am the same day. I’ll have the full weekend to visit my mother and younger brother in Honolulu before flying out at 10pm Sunday evening, 3/31, to return to Las Vegas via San Francisco at 8:50am Monday, April Fool’s day. The trip will last 12 days and cover a bit over 12,000 miles. Today I’ll put in my leave request for the trip. It’s getting real.
Found a good deal on Northwest Airlines in March that would allow me to spend a full week in Tokyo and the better part of three days in Honolulu on the return. The cost with taxes and fees is $1,191.44. I’ll need to discuss this with my kids in Japan and my mother in Hawaii to see if the timing is good for them. Something to look forward to.
