Her mantra, in flight
‘Next summer will be better’
As mad bee gives chase

Moustachio’d grrl
Share a vitamin water
With your Rat some day

At her old photos
I smiled. I wonder where my
Own twenties exist?

And now, she ponders
Separation of Art and
Life, not church and state

Emergent and pure
And towelled to perfection
I shall sweat again

I fret about paint
Then style, then statement. Oh, to
Access Gore Vidal!

I could not reach her.
The day, warm and summerlike
She won’t know or miss.
