I am so excited that we are moving on to the painting portion of this huge labor of love! Really looking forward to seeing it come to life again. And this is the new and improved nursery because we’ve added well over 100 characters that the old house didn’t have. I can’t wait for him to see the finished project and be as excited about his room as we are. 5 years ago

we added the ‘hidden symbols’ that represent our immediate family members, and now my husband is ready to stencil our son’s name over the door. We should (I hope) be done with this phase and begin the painting phase sometime this weekend! Woohoo! 5 years ago

This phase is almost done… now if Hubby would quit adding characters now that the end (of this part) is in sight.
Here’s my ‘argument’ on that one- There’s already close to 400 characters in there. Is there ever going to be enough to consider it PERFECT or feel like we’ve given him what he deserves? There has to be a point where you say, ‘Ok this looks great!’ and we can always put characters on other things if we decide we want to add more—ie, toy box, bookshelf, dresser, curtains… don’t want to overdo it either.
As I type, progress is being made in there. Jason is drawing more and Steph is outlining. I bet Jason and I can kick off the painting either tomorrow or Monday night! Woohoo! 5 years ago

I put in an hour and Jason did too, tonight. I erased stray pencil lines, and I outlined, and I cleared out some clutter so it’s not in the way. I even traced one character!
I’d say about two more man hours in there and we’ll be ready to paint! Woohoo!! 5 years ago

Jason and I are both determined, and we have few plans for this weekend, so… this should be done this weekend, and we should be moving into paint phase! Woohoo!
I’d like to declare this weekend a 43 things weekend, but this one is one of the top priorities if not THE top priority.
I get to try my hand at tracing a character, and I have some other tasks to work on. The trick will be keeping Drew happy and not having to yell at him in his own room. I want it to be a good experience for him as well… might have to bust out the highchair and play doh tactic again. :) 5 years ago

I did 15 minutes of outlining before putting my boy to bed. Not a ton, but it made me feel good to do that. 5 years ago

Well, the nursery is now about 60% drawn and about 50% outlined! I did VERY little so far, but I’ll make up for that soon. I also determined that instead of finding one fabric to make his curtains- we’ll stick with the ‘theme’ of tons of characters, and I’ll make some patchwork curtains with all sorts of character fabrics. So, now I just need to start stocking up on them when they’re on sale and begin measuring and planning them. His room is going to be amazing! 5 years ago

I want to work on this a bit this weekend, even if it means just a half hour.
Right now- mostly thanks to Jason and Stephanie (my sister-in-law)- the room is about 45% drawn, and about 30% outlined! Not bad!
I suspect that by this time next month the painting will be in full swing. 5 years ago

So far, the room is puttied, painted (quickly) with white, and then about 35% of the drawing is done, and outlining has a good start. By the end of the month, I am sure the drawing part and most of the outlining will be finished!! Yay! 5 years ago

We cleaned out his room today- it is EMPTY! Hubby covered the broken outlet, and the phone jack. He also removed all screws and nails sticking out of the walls and puttied the holes. Now we’re going to quickly slap up a coat of white all over the room (just for a blank canvas) and begin the ‘stenciling’ with the overhead in the next day or two!! Then the real fun begins! I’ll be detailing it here as we go. I’m very excited! Oh, and we put his bed together about a week and a half ago. :) 5 years ago

Many steps to go, but I brought home an overhead projector I’m borrowing, and Jason put together the big boy bed earlier than planned because the little guy climbed out of his crib all by himself!
Nursery drawing and painting should start soon… 5 years ago

Hubby bought 10 plastic totes today- should be able to fit outgrown clothes, and tons of toys in about 4 or 5 of them. Then we can move out the big stuff, and start painting (the base coat of paint), borrow the overhead from work, and get moving on the mural! :) 5 years ago

Next step is clearing his room out. I am really looking forward to doing his room. First, though, we should probably get the living room under control. One big project at a time, I guess!
This step shouldn’t take long because I started it the other day and got quite a bit done. 5 years ago

Before we can start painting, I have to organize his stuff. He has SO many toys, clothes, books, etc. it’s unreal! I got a good start yesterday. I hope to accomplish more on that by the end of today. 5 years ago
