I’ve done a couple of Diaper cakes for my sister and friends baby showers, but I hosted my sister’s friends babyshower and made this one for the center piece, it got a little big ( 250 diapers).. I was a freak about it..lol
It was so worth it and I am surprised not more people do it.. they are fun and you can really get creative.

I have been making diaper cakes for a while now. The thing I do different from mine then the other diaper cake companies is that I hide all the baby items inside. There are 15 items inside each diaper cake including a handmade swaddle blanket and handmade reversible bib set. I have now made a website to hold all my designs, diaper cakes, towel cakes and other gifts. Instead of charging an arm and a leg for them, I make my prices quite reasonable. Making diaper cakes can be time consuming but it’s a lot of fun. And if you don’t have time to make your own or just don’t have that creative side, stop by my site and I can get you one today. www.sweetpeacakesetc.com

I just recently started making diaper cakes to sell from home and they are so much fun, and so easy to make. If anyone is looking for good instructions on how to make diaper cakes the best way to find some are to google “diaper cake instructions”. There are a lot of sites with step by step instructions and even some with pictures. Here is a picture of my most recent diaper cake I made. It is a 4 tier baby boy diaper cake which includes:
110 Luvs Size 1 diapers
3 receiving blankets
2 Graco 8 oz. bottles
1 pacifier
3 onesies
1 tube of Desitin
1 9 oz. Johnson’s Baby Wash
1 Baby brush and comb set
1 boft baby blue teddy bear
This is my second cake I have made and I plan on making many more. I have had 2 people ask me to make them diaper cakes in the past week!

Everyone at work ooohed and awwwed over this. It was the best shower gift I have ever given. I would definitely do this again, although it was not an inexpensive gift. It was definitely worth the time and effort!

So thank you for all your wonderful ideas. I wish I had taken a picture of the cake I made but I was very impressed with it. I only used one package of diapers despite many websites requesting more. I also taped each rolled diaper and then using a basket, would stand them up to form the rounded “Cake” tiers. When I was ready to tie the tier of diapers together, I turned the basket upside down and let the diapers slide out about half way before tying the ribbon around them. It was so simple and I think looked better than tying individual diapers with ribbons (as suggested by some websites) and prettier than using rubberbands. Plus I didn’t have any pins to hold it all together but really – as a recently new mom – I don’t think any new mom would want to mess with all those stick pins either.
Another good tip I figured out, instead of joining each tier together, I allowed the cake the ability to be seperated. I carried the tiers in cardboard boxes that I had lying around so that transporting it was a breeze and I never had to worry about it falling apart. My mom to be has a 2 yr old and I know had enough stuff to carry and worry about rather than keeping her new cake put together.
Finally, I used various large items like a package of bottles, a bottle of baby lotion and a container of baby powder for the center of the base. It gave my cake height and allowed me to use less diapers for that large cake effect.
This was simple to do and I encourage anyone thinking about this as a gift for the next shower to go for it!

When you show up at a baby shower with the diaper cake you made yourself you will be showered with praise. It’s always the talk of the shower. I’ve given many of them over the years and people still talk about them! It’s a great feeling to make something and even better to give it away knowing it will be much appreciated.
