As with Tim I did this in Kenya, and also witnessed the proof that southern and northern hemisphere toilet water flushes in opposite directions, noticable within 20 yeards either side of the equator.

I stood on and crossed the Equator near Nanyuki, Kenya. The actual experience was somewhat anti-climatic—I think the locals were more excited to have tourists coming through. I paid some guy a dollar for a certificate that said I’ve been on the equator, and I also gave him another dollar to demonstrate the coriolis effect. Sure enough, even just 20 paces off the equator it seemed to work!
I went to Equador last Spring Break, and stood on both sides. It was pretty anti-climactic.
Stood with one foot north and one foot south on the side of a busy road in Uganda. I didn’t feel any different. The snacks were overpriced.
