"Now...It seems to be the only thing I can do."
How I did it: Basically, I was listening to green day one day and thought that I might want to play guitar. I didn't really know if I was going to either play guitar or bass guitar. I've done some research on the internet and found out that playing bass is somewhat more fun. You can do pretty cool tricks on bass. I decided to play with a pick since it gave the sound I wanted. I started learning my bass guitar all by myself. I learned a few easy songs, like, welcome to my life by simple plan and bro hymn by pennywise. After a while, knowing myself a little better, I understood that I wanted to learn music and so I applied for college, to study Music. It was 3 months after I started playing my bass. As time passed, my Bass Guitar Teacher taught me a lot of things, like scales and techniques and such. I got into playing bass so much that I can't seem to stop doing it. Now, I can play pretty much anything. I must tell you, though, it's taken a lot of practice. There were a lot of days where I would just stand in front of the mirror for more than 7 hours a day, just practicing. I can't say that I "can" play my bass guitar though. I am able to, but I can't. If you know what I mean. There are a lot more hours should be spent practicing and learning new things. I am on my way though :)
Lessons & tips: First, sit down and think if you really want to do it. Then find out if you want to do it as a hobby or try and make a living out of it. 2 choices have big differences. I have chosen to make a living out of it. It is a big responsibility. You need to spend a lot of time alone with your bass guitar, in front of the mirror, doing nothing but play, play, and play. I started learning bass guitar on my own. There are a lot of tips, lessons, video lessons, etc. on the internet. I used, and still use, www.ultimate-guitar.com It has a lot of articles about pretty much anything. First thing you should do is find out how the strings are called and learn the notes on the fretboard (not if you prefer reading tabs). Next thing you should do is FIND THE CORRECT position of your hand on the fretboard. Find some excersises for your left hand's fingers and your right hands finger, if you decide to play with fingers. I play with a pick because it provides the soung that I want. I have to tell you that many people say BASS IS EASY. IT IS NOT! It is easy TO START learning the bass, but NOT play it! It has a lot of tricks that not many people can do. If you want some more info and lessons, msg me. I have my teacher's notes and so on. They are a great help. :)
