Have skim read two out of three three, and have to admit that as well as being initially bewildering, I did find an interest being piqued, as they say. Both mention analysis of Japanese relative clauses in terms of pro, though the Kitao paper dimisses this analysis. Might be worth a second look, I suppose. I did always enjoy a bit of pro in English case marking, so that’s a possible line of attack. More reading needed though.
A quiet day at the office tomorrow, so I’m hoping to get through Head-internal RCs and interpretation of indefinite NPs. A bit excited about that because I’m hoping there might be a way of incorporating the Kamp-Heim indefinite analysis. Unfortunately this will also need a lot of re-reading, since I can’t remember a single thing about it (hey, it was four years ago) other than the fact I thought it was absolutely the best thing since sliced bread. Other than negative polarity, obviously, but I’m not going to get that into a paper on Japanese relative clauses.
