I started, but then school came my way. And readings, and more readings. So I am delaying this goal to christmas break, I figure it will be a good diversion from the fam when needed.

How I did it: I only ready one "chapter" every day and it took me a while. Some of the chapters I had to read twice to understand all that was going on. It was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be and easier to read. The last 40 pages were the hardest to read becase the author goes into all this detail about people and what their actions say about them and what historians say about different things. Read how I did it…

I bought the new translation that came out a year or two ago.

I just bought this book on Friday. It’s a massive novel but I think I’ll feel smart once I read it! lol.
I bought this book 20 years ago. I need to blow off the dust and crack it open.
elcheung feeling happy and sane.
Started this book about 9 years ago… so sad!! but I just could never get going… really ought to try it again.
I’m halfway through War and Peace, and the only reason I haven’t finished it yet is that I accidentally left it at home when I went to Ireland for a week on holiday! It’s really good, I’m loving it and I don’t understand at all why people get bored with it or find it hard to read. I like the huge number of characters, because you don’t get bored following one person around all the time, and you get to see each character from different perspectives as their individual stories start to merge. It covers everything, philosophy, love, battles – and speaking of battles, I was no less interested during the war part, even though I’m a girl and I actually don’t have much interest in military history. It’s even funny in places.
I have no idea when I will actually get to this goal as I have 2 children under the age of 2 and my husband is in Iraq, but I definitely want to read this eventually! I just bought the Pevear & Volokhonsky translation and I may attempt to read it a little at a time. Of course, it took me 6 weeks to read Fahrenheit 451 this summer, so it may be years before I get this one done!
purplesue is too much of a boring person and thinks someone will realise

just taken out of library, start reading soon, the book is so thick
I read the first 25% already a year ago but got caught up in other interests and never finished the book.
I do however realy like the style in which it is written, especially the discriptions of little details, emotions and settings which made it possible to actually vision the scene and more important, the setting (in history).
I’m reading the translation (the Louise & Aylmer Maude one) but it seems like the quality of the book was not lost in translation.
hence I decided to start over again after I finished my last 2 exams of this year later this week.
Should take me a few weeks since english is not my main language so I will not be able to race through the book but on the other hand that’s a good thing since the book realy requires you to fully coprehend what is going on.
