I’ve wanted to try Skype for a long time now, I just hadn’t gotten around to it (I never even got around to adding it to my list). The big push has come from so many friends and family leaving town, especially this week. Sherry catches a plane tonight and my parents head out tomorrow and will be gone for several months. I really want our whole family to be able to keep in touch with the important people in our lives, even if they’re going far, far away.
Last night (at Sherry’s insistence that it’s as free & easy as it sounds), I downloaded/installed the program, whipped up an account, plugged in my web cam and that was it! Easy peasy, we were talking across town (although there were 4 of her for some reason), and tonight we could talk across the country if we felt like it.
As soon as my folks get to North Carolina, they’re planning on setting their computer up with it too, so it’s going to be a lot easier for us to stay in touch and save a few bucks. Another bonus? Isak’s thrilled about seeing himself on the computer screen which has already diffused a tantrum.
As long as we can all just remember our pants…

CabeRenee It's been so long, I forgot my password ~ Is anybody still using 43T?
So I added Skype today. I can FINALLY see my friends & family and talk for free! This will have to do until I get back to California.

Muriel is realizing her life circumstances.
This is an amazing tool. We had known of Skype, but had no use for it really as our international calls were slim to none. But then, my grandma came to visit my mom and started calling the Philippines – costing a lot of money.
We decided to save my mom some cash and downloaded Skype. Then got Skype Pro. Then got Skype In so we can start using it for business. Earlier today, I tested it calling Yves Rocher in France, which caught me off guard when a person actually picked up. And tonight, I just called my mom and conference-called the Philippines.
HOW CRAZY IS THAT!?
Now they’re speaking in my ear and I don’t understand a thing, but how beautiful is technology now?
It feels like a much smaller world.

I’m in the UK and I just called my friend in San Fransisco. We IM since she moved out there but this is the first time I’ve heard her voice in over a year.
It was great and free. Yippee :)

If any of you 43thigners are using Skype send me a message in 43people and get in touch, its the coolest thing I’ve talked to people all over the world and practicing my foreign langauages is a lot easier when theres always someone to practice with.

Silly thing – I installed Skype and then my computer started crashing every 2 minutes – wouldn’t stop until I uninstalled it. :(
