I was thinking

about joining the 2008 TBR challenge, and it’s really tempting, but maybe it’ll put too much unnecessary pressure on me this time. Not because of the number, 12 books is supposed to be easy, but I don’t want to commit to specific titles.
Anyway, I was toying with the idea, so this would be a draft of a list:
1. The book of Merlyn, by T.H.WHite
2. Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury
3. Theo’s Odyssey, by Catherine ClĂ©ment
4. The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, by Carl Sagan
5. Something by Andrea Camilleri (if my neighboor lends it to me!!)
6. The Manuscript found in Saragosa, by Jan Potocki
7. The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald
8. The Complete SHort Stories by Mark Twain
Except for Camilleri, I have all of this at home. There are many other things I’d like to read (Elaine Pagels!! The History of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell asterisk mentioned….), but I have all those others at home.

by John Dickson Carr. Hate to say it, but not his best :(
I still love him, anyway.

by Katherine Neville.
Not the kind of mystery I’m used to. Much more action, more of a thriller, but I enjoyed the difference, too.
There were two heroines, a girl who worked with computers and got drawn into a wild goose chase for Charlemagne’s chess game, and a novice nun travelling through 18th Century France, in the days fo the Terror, and through Algiers.

by Carter Dickson (John Dickson Carr).
I enjoyed two ideas from the subplots very much. Usual stuff, good for my mental vacation.

Un Mese con Montalbano was a fun, light way of getting acquainted with Inspector Montalbano. Not particularly plot-clever, but very people-clever, and a very different tone from what I’m used to.
I specially enjoyed the fact that almost all of the female characters/love interests, etc… were women older than 30, brunettes with dark eyes and voluptuous curves. That was refreshing.

a lot more, lately. I missed it.
The last one was An Instance of the Fingerpost, by Iain Pears.
