I believe that theology matters…and that, like my beloved professor of ethics told us in divinity school, you can tell a person’s theology by how they act. “Your theology is showing,” she would say to people when they double-parked or committed other small but selfish acts.
I believe that the voice of liberal theology, grounded in reason and mercy, is desperately needed in these times. I believe that the work of James Luther Adams’ students is not done. I believe that liberation theology was not a fad.
I knew I wanted to be a theologian from the time I was nine. I love the work I do now, but I know that there’s a body of theological work that I am hungry to explore and create, and I need more language and better frameworks and an academic community to develop it to fruition. So, what am I waiting for?
