Was in Mendon, Mass for an outing and brought directions to 3 Mendon boxes just in case we had time. Glad I’d brought all 3 with me as our first 2 attempts left us empty handed. We were very happy to find the 3rd, in a cool old cemetery. Extra bonus? The box brought us right by a gas station that was selling regular for $3.99! Gas is $4.09 and up around here!

Ok, this is bordering on obsession. Went again today! Took all the kids to Purgatory Chasm in Sutton and found 3 boxes. It was SOOO fun climbing all over the rocks. I’m glad it was so fun, because I had to drag my oldest with us (he wanted to stay home in bed…..) I haven’t been to PC since I was a kid and it was even more fun to have the boxes to search for. We had the directions to 3, plus one of the boxes had bonus box directions inside. VERY fun! There are at least 3 more boxes there to find, so we’ll definitely be going back!!!

Discovered a series of hiking trails 5 minutes from our house. The Walkup Reservation is inside a business park, so unless you worked there you may never know about it!! It was a great hike with lots of interesting things (stone walls, stone steps, a boardwalk over the river, etc)

....to Davis’ Farmland. The night before I checked letterboxing.org and found a box RIGHT NEAR BY! So we added another box to our book. Letterboxes are EVERYWHERE!!

Went today....
....to find the elusive #2 “stolen face” box. With the additional clue we indeed found it (a bit embarrassed that we didn’t find it the first or second times around…..) We also hiked out and found #5 “leader of the band” box. So we probably hiked 3 miles today letterboxing. Very fun!
And now there is only one left to find in the immediate vicinity of our house, but it is the farthest hike away. Need to figure out a time when we can do this.

letterboxing is awesome. I want to rededicate a journal to the sole purpose, maybe create my own box? and a new stamp!

...to find the abandoned dam built by Henry Ford in the Sudbury (MA) woods. There were two boxes nearby, but we only found one…it was very fun. We brought a picnic and ate it on the dam, then stopped at the Wayside Country Store for ice cream afterwards. So I’m convinced we took in more calories than we expended…...oh well, it was definitely fun!
My brother is officially hooked. Wants to find all of the Wayside Inn boxes next AND wants to hide his own. Very fun :)

My brother and his friend’s little girl were visiting. The weather was perfect hiking weather, so we decided to go and find some more boxes. My brother hadn’t been out on the trails around the lake in about 40 years, so it was a blast from the past for him. We found box #6 and #7! In the same hiding spot for #6 was a second box full of CDs. The instructions were for each person that found the box to take a CD! I’m listening to it right now and it is a soothing instrumental with psychedelic graphics. Very cool.
My brother is definitely hooked and wants to come with us again sometime.

Our lake has loads of hiking trails and there are seven boxes hidden within a short hikes distance from our house. Today we hiked for an hour and found two. A third is either missing or very, very well hidden. I need to send an email to the hider to find out for sure. But my kids enjoyed it and we had some nice quality time outside together.

....I found our letterboxing journal and stamps….since my screen name IS letterboxer and I haven’t taken the kids to look for another box in AGES, it is time to resurrect this goal. It’ll be great to go searching for some boxes nearby to help me and the kids get to know our new town a little better.
Letterboxing is great. Combines solving a puzzle, finding a treasure and hiking. Oh, yeah, and in-your-face family time. Gotta love it!
