And thank you for mentors to carry us through when inspiration is lacking.
And thank you for my own self-motivation when mentors aren’t around.
And thank you anyway for the potential for all these, even when they’re not actualised at a particular moment in time.

Isn’t it great when you wake up with a smile and and spring in your step?
Today the alarm frightened me when I woke!
Off to bed now, with a smile on my face and a glow in my heart.

Steve Pavlina distinguishes between two different kinds of gratitude. In essence, more effective and more permanent gratitude is of this kind, e.g. thank you for being alive.

I’ve got a mix of different types of gratitude here, in the future I’ll try focusing on the ‘Level 2’ type and see what that’s like. In the past I’ve written about ‘Level 1’ types because being more tangible they’re easier to identify.
Actually, I’m not sure that the things I’ve been thankful for are that temporary, e.g. even if mince pies disappeared forever I would still be appreciative of the fact that I’ve had them in the past.
I suppose the real take-home-value of Steve’s post is that it’s the spirit in which you offer gratitude that counts. It’s definitely easier to be more in tune with a more life-affirming spirit if you’re grateful for living than e.g. for being warm.
On the other hand, I’m freezing at the moment but that’s okay, I’m grateful not only to be alive, but to be able to feel (isn’t touch amazing?!) and to be safe and inside.
Hmm, will have to muse on this some more.

I haven’t said thank you in a little while, but I have been revelling in how lucky I am. It’s pretty amazing that I have so much, that I can do so much. I’ve been up to a lot lately and it’s cool to achieve so many things.
Hooray!

Isn’t it brilliant when, having put off eating because you’re a geek who’s so addicted to the Web that getting up just dooesn’t feel worth it but then you’re desperately hungry because you’ve not eaten a proper meal all day because you couldn’t think of what to have, you finally potter off to the kitchen because you remember you have some mince pies left, as well as some frsh orange juice with bits?
Yes!

PS They talked about people’s mental ages. I think I’m 19.

Cheating a bit for this one as I’ve already published this as part of my recent entry: Make More Mistakes is back!

It really makes all the difference in the world when it just feels right to work, when you truly want to think and reason and write.
Thank you for the good feeling; here’s to its long continuance!

Chris, thank you so much for your passion for philosophy, which is truly inspirational.
Thank you that you’re so able to re-energise me with enthusiasm when I thought all hope was gone.
Thank you for unwittingly reminding me of the joy of studying, of education, of academia. Thank you for not giving up on me, even when I let you and myself down.
Thank you for steadfastly, consistently recommending books to read, methods of working, styles of writing. Thank you for your honesty, for admitting you don’t know the answers. Thank you for valuing wisdom. Thank you for acknowledging when I say something worthwhile. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you for you!

So inspiring to see some clear space again.
