Im a sophmore in highschool so I only have my permit. I have to wait like 2 hours for her to pick me up. It’s 3.8 miles home from school. I think I could do it. I’m just worried about my bike getting stolen and my bookbag. I should start riding my bike home next week.
With the picture, I was going to snap the buckle thing but I haven’t worn it in so long (like 4 years!) it doesn’t even fit anymore. Haha.

Ok, so although my first bike got stolen (about 8 hours after being purchased) I have decided to ignore my painful memories that I now attach to all bike-dom, and have received a NEW and even BETTER bike! (for free from Darci, thanks Darci!!!)
project ride-my-bike-to-school is a go. Even though classes end today, aaaaand my tires are flat.
Damn. Might have to wait until the Fall. :(

then realized how long three miles to school really were. :) I did it, but not as often as I thought I would.

There is more than one benefit to riding your bicycle to school. If your school is a college, then you’ll be saving money on a parking pass. Gas saving is very important when concerning todays high prices! Raising your heart rate for 30 minutes is old news, todays standards are 45 minutes! Who knew? The time used to ride your bike will open your eyes to new stores or restaurants around your neighborhood too. Time to think, focus, realize new goals, etc.
This multi-beneficial goal is attainable. Just prepare for cold weather. Tie your shoe laces, check tire pressure, invest in a geared bicycle, lights!, reflectors!, a basket is nice too – buy some small bungee cords to hold your drink instead of a tacky water bottle that tastes like plastic.

some people might think that this isn’t much of a thing to try to accomplish, but here’s the background.
I can’t really ride a bike…yes, are you done laughing yet? I never learned to ride a bike…at least not really. Had an accident as a child, was scared out of my mind of the things for a long time, and then in college a boyfriend bought me a bike and tried to encourage me to ride. I was freaked out but took on the challenge (with a lot of coaxing)...and then gave up. This past summer, now YEARS later, bought a used bike at the local bike shop and want to really learn and get confident on a bike. So, riding my bike to school is more than just getting on the thing and riding it…it’s also learning to do it, navigating crazy Boston traffic, etc.
Anyhow, I know, I know…who doesn’t know how to ride a bike? well, more people than you might think…I know a few others.
