I’m putting this one on a backburner cause it’s not really a priority right now… Just maintaining my sanity & getting healthy & independent & moving the hell outta the house again is!!!
We can think of ‘funky locations’ later!!

My Mom works in a castle. Until Spring, that is.
I was at her job today, inbetween doctors’ appointments…
I felt so ‘right’ – being there. Like I belonged in a castle, LOL!!
Really fancy place to work at!! ;)
It makes even accounting, uhm, less boring-?
They are in the new wing now (tacky 90s, oh well! but still, a castle!) – with central heating and all (with heat coming in from a heating plant of a nearby factory, I think). It IS cold in the loo!! I missed the old tower a bit, & the squeaky wooden floor of the ‘old wing’...
But I DID feel like a PRINCESS!!! ;)

Modern Castle

I Googled ‘modern castle’ & many links pop up too!!

One man went about it the 13th century way!

This one is just 25 years old (in Wales) & has double glazing!http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_east/3517148.stm
“This is certainly the first castle I’ve been asked to sell this year,” the real estate agent said!
Too bad I missed this episode of World’s Most Extreme Homes! (HGTV Canada – oh, we got only UK version, I think!)
Episode: Modern English Castle. John Mew had always wanted to live in a castle, so he built one himself and included classic elements such as a moat and …

AWESOME link, tells you how to build a new (warm!) castle ;) LOL http://www.castlemagic.com/fcolor.html#archi – Pics of building process too!! (designs – a bit kitschy, but ‘okay’... Idea: AWESOME!!) Family owned and operated since 1975. – Crazy!!
I wonder about the kind of insulation advocated, but I love the fact they also say solar & passive heating can be contemplated too!! WOW!!
“Your actual plan should be designed to fit the site in a manner to provide protection from an attack.” LOL They do add beautiful views are another consideration! ;)
Interesting to see castles are treated as ‘residential homes’ – & those regulations apply.
I wonder how people would look here if I said or attempted to build one!! LOL
Castle standing on ROCK does last longer – that much I know!! (& have seen!)

On heating in old houses (Yes, I adore them too!!)
A small gas stove may be a good idea! – 2 oil heaters may not be enough!
http://www.43things.com/entries/view/2259714#comments
“We have an 1893 Victorian with radiators. It costs a fortune to heat a three story house every winter. We bought a small gas stove that looks like a wood stove but runs on gas only. It provides tons of heat but the cost is minimal and we can simply heat the first floor with it if we keep other doors shut. Sometimes if we don’t keep an eye on it the first floor becomes so hot you have to go outside for a few minutes. We open our second floor bedroom door just before bedtime and the heat is nearly oppressive when we first go in. We got ours at Lowe’s on the cheap because it was off-season. It was several hundred for the stove and another two hundred to have a plumber install it – maybe $500 total?” AlexMom
“Yes, a wood burning stove could be a really expensive addition involving chimneys, etc. We thought about that at our house too. Hope you come up with a solution – I remember how cold we were all the time before our gas stove!”

1. an old farmhouse, cheaply let (hopefully)
2. a flat in the city (in which city?) – in a beautiful old house with high ceilings or something more modern
3. a villa by the sea
3. an old house in the South of France or by-the-sea Mediterranean area
4. a castle
5. a mansion (gothick preferably)
6. a small cabin made of logs
7. environmentally friendly community
/partly copied from another goal/
I know I may wind up in all sorts of places initially, but these are a few I’d looove to live in at least 4 some time!! (2 or 3 months or more!!)
