How to lose 8 lbs
How I did it:
- Went to a trainer once a week, biked to work 3-5 times a week, added one or two hardcore workouts every week (Grouse Grind, long run. etc), and most importantly, I meticulously tracked everything I ate for about two months -- until I got the hang of estimating calories required vs calories I just want to eat because they're generally delicious..
- Also, picked a reasonable goal and time frame, and looked up online calculators to estimate the number of calories I should be eating.
Lessons & tips: I saw ZERO CHANGE on scale or tape measure for 2.5 months, and then suddenly, it all departed 4 lbs at a time. So stick to it.
Calories in = calories out. I don't know why it took me my entire lifetime before I really got this one, simple concept. As it turns out I was eating more or less healthily, just too much of it.
Once I relearned how to be satisfied with less, things got easier.

I’ve been going to a trainer once a week for 3 months. While she’s awesome, and I have managed to gain muscle and cardio fitness and even fit better in my clothing, I have actually not lost weight or inches. Hello.
Part of the issue: the only exercise I’ve been getting this winter has been this one training session a week. No biking to work, and only sporadically running, and definitely not using my gym pass. That’s $24/month I’m never getting back!
So the real goal, I guess, is to exercise at least 3 times a week. Ideally, run 2-3 times/week, go to the gym on my own once a week, and see my trainer once a week.
I quit smoking and injured my foot, so I have actually GAINED weight. Sigh. Bummer.
This goal is kind of small in the grand scheme of things but it will get me down to a nice round number and will motivate me to get down towards my actual goal.
I think it might just be the heat but I really haven’t been hungry in the middle of the day. So I’ve just been having healthy snacks to keep up my metabolism and energy. I’ve also been cutting my meal size down. I already feel a little better in my clothes and I’ve noticed I’m getting a little more attention from J too. I just hope that I can keep it up!
25% of the way there! It seems like I have quite a few good days in a row and then slip up. Like tomorrow I’m going out to lunch with a couple of friends and then Saturday my family is going to be in town so we will probably be going out again.
