I need to add some low/no-impact training to my exercise routine (primarily running). I can swim-in that I won’t drown-but am very inefficient with my stroke and breathing and really need to take some lessons for help. I have scheduled a private lesson for tonight. I hope it is helpful!

How I did it: Signed up for adult private lessons at the school my girlfriend teaches at. Intentionally requested her as an instructor because I knew it would help me get over my fear of the water, and because she would not let me goof off during my time in the water. Read how I did it…

I want to do this again IF I ever go back to the pool.
I am currently subscribed to a gym that has no pool, so it makes little sense now.
Anyway, I know how to swim, I just wanted to get faster, and swimming with proper form seemed like the way to do it.
I have other stuff to focus on right now.
For the future:
The next action for this goal would be to get a pool membership!

I took swimming lessons in college as PE class, then on my own at the local YWCA about 20 years ago! learned some of the basics, but always have a hard time with the breathing. I live in a condo where there’s a lovely pool and I just never got to use it that much.
My 8 year old is a fish! She can do laps and her breaststrokes are divine!
I envy her, hahaha..

More progress… I’m working on breathing, blowing bubbles and paddling at the same time! Lol.. I made a lot of progress, this evenings class was fun. They’re adding another session once this one is over, for beginning adult swimmers that is ;)

I really enjoy Monday evenings ;) Being in the water is relaxing and a nice change of pace. I’m finding that any fears I had have left. I even feel comfortable floating on my back, though I do prefer an instructor around when I’m ready to stand from that position. Everything is easier and it’s funny how I’ve done more than I thought, once I rise to the surface or stand up~

I had a break through today! I felt free and peaceful and floated up without grabbing for my instructor, both belly up and belly down ;) I did better practicing with my face in the water, blowing bubbles. It feels good to make new strides each class!

I really enjoyed it! It was easier than my first class and I had one on one attention from Emily, one of the teachers. She was encouraging and she kept pushing me. I was breathing under water without fear for the first time. It felt good! I even let go and was floating belly up and belly down ;) This is major progress for me!

Classes begin Monday, I’m excited!

September 8th… will I do it? It would be another great way to celebrate turning 40 in November; a new skill under my belt~
Gina is trying to find her place in life
Class two was a bit rough… we were expected to do suicide drills (I knew there was a reason for that name!) Neither my friend nor I were ready for them… so we were quite exhausted towards the end.
My friend and I spent class 3 swimming back and forth… our instructor never showed. Now he wants to add an extra 15 min to our next two classes… so instead of meeting at 7:15 we start at 7…
Did I mention that I’m not a morning person??
