The recent RailsConf in Portland certainly gave me lots of opportunities to learn. But it also highlighted how much I still have to learn!
On the sharing front, volunteering to talk about what’s new in Rails 2.1 at the Sydney Rails meetup last night gave me the chance to not only share that knowledge but learn in the process.

Well it’s been a while since I’ve logged into 43 things and alot has happened since the day that I made this a goal of mine. I’m now working with rails on a daily basis, and I’ve submitted my first patch to rails-core awhile back:
Beginning to understand what’s actually happening behind the code, down in the Core. It’s a really nice feeling starting to understand what I’m actually doing.
Have now reached the level when the code just flows. Need only to think about the special stuff now – not the cake-cutter code anymore…
Actually, it’s true what they say. When you’re teaching someone something – you’re really forced to think about it in another way. Really helpful actually!

In the new year I’ll be working more intensively with Rails so I expect to get further up the “Mastering Rails” tree. Looking forward to the opportunity.
Actually, I’ve started to take a course in school which really is beneath my level – but it gives me time to get into the more advanced stuff, which is great. I think I’m gonna pull all the stops for my final exam-work and build something spectacular…
Slowly getting there – my knowledge of datalogy and best-practice programming is growing every day on this project I’m working on. Spending time with researchers in the above subjects really help…
