I have visited SF 3 times in the past 2 months and have fallen in love. I currently live in Atlanta and want to re-locate to SF within the nex year. I am very scared about not being able to meet people, as i will know no one in the city. Does anyone have any advice on this?

It's not the same. 10 months ago

On face, this seems like a rather silly goal to have for someone that lives in the Bay Area. I was raised in the South Bay, and have remained no more than an hour away from San Francisco my entire life.

With that said, it’s just not the same. Don’t get me wrong: I love the place, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. But it’s one thing to live in a relatively quiet suburban neighborhood, and quite another to reside in the heart of the city.

I originally wanted to spend a few years in New York, but to be frank, my heart is here in the west. Hopefully I’ll be able to save up enough to make this goal a reality.

I lived 2 doors up from the corner of Haight and Ashbury. I also lived in the Castro district for a short time. I love the City, but I don’t want to live there again. It’s a great place to visit, though!

Atlanta is such a boring city compared to San Fran.

I am saving up through my college years to move out there to San Fran, or at least 10 mins away from San Fran.

I’ve got about 5 thousand saved up from just 2 years. But working part time and 10 an hour won’t get me anywhere.

Gotta get a full time job, maybe two. SO EXPENSIVE out there!!!

after I visited... 14 months ago

After i visited this last spring break, I fell in love. I’m moving from Atlanta to Melbourne, AU until December/January in about 40 days, but I want to move to San Fran after I leave Australia. It’s part of my master plan to live in some of the greatest cities of the world.

new york is my final stop.

And now I am elsewhere. I miss my city. Someday I swear I’m going to make enough money to be able to own property there.

Moved to San Francisco in August 2007. Love it here. I live in Potrero Hill, which is my opinion is the best little neighborhood in the city. It’s always sunny, even when the rest of the city is fogged in. It’s quiet and safe, almost all residential. There’s street parking, sure beats paying $200/month for a spot in a garage. It’s easy to get to the rest of the city and bay. It’s close enough to walk/bike to most places in the city (especially the Mission, Union Square, and SOMA) and easy freeway/bridge access. I can read the scoreboard at ATT Park from my front door. Great views of the city, so pretty at night. It’s built on bedrock so it is safer in earthquakes. The houses are great, mine was built in 1912 and has great character.

Enough about Potrero, San Francisco itself is great too. So many good restaurants with any type of food you could ever desire, some I didn’t even know existed! And the diversity! I’ve learned a lot from the people I’ve met here. And so many great events/concerts/etc.

The bad things: expensive, very expensive. I pay $1800 a month for a studio. Driving/traffic/parking. Driving in the city is an adventure, the hills are ridiculously steep and people pull some really interesting driving maneuvers. You have to be alert when driving in the city, never know when the car in front of you is going to decide to park in their lane and run into the store (not kidding).

I love san fran. It looks like a city in Europe. I want to get out and see more of the world.
