Just finished spending the weekend in Southern California – I reminded me how much I love San Diego. Hubby and I have both started our Job search in the area…

I’m finishing my freshman year of college in eastern Pennsylvania. My plan is to continue at my university for the fall ‘09 semester then transfer to a community in San Diego, CA. Obviously, I’m a poor college student, so this very well may be an “unwise” move on my part. However, it’s what I’m doing and I’m damned stubborn about it. I believe this can work and no matter what I’ll be happy with my decision. I’m moving in with an old friend of mine out there, but I’ll need cold, hard advice on expenses, budgeting for the SoCal environment, and job searching while doing going to a community college (for a year or so – until I’m considered a full-fledged California resident, then university!). Would you recommend part-time school, full-time job or the other way around? Again, any past experience of yours or thoughts are welcome. Thanks! :)
I too, have a one year old daughter, and I am really wanting to move to San Diego a) before she’s settled in daycare – she’s never been, b) before I buy a house and c) before I turn 40!!!
I’ve been in Sacramento for the last 11 years and I’ve hated about 10 1/2 years of it; I got stuck here because of a sister and friends. But at this point, I heard the school systems, weather, ocean, and city of San Diego are AMAZING to say the least. I want to move there, unsight, unseen or whatever that’s called.
Im normally a Marketing Manager in banking/finance, with some Project Management experience. And though I’ve seen tons of jobs which I’ve been applying to, I’m not getting a SINGLE response. I can only assume it’s because I have a Sacramento address on my resume. Does anyone have any experience with this? The only thing I can think to do is to get a mailbox online, but you have to do a lot of stuff to do that.
Lastly, I guess I’m just nervous to pack up my house (we rent) and daughter and do something so sort of crazy. I mean, I used to move a lot in my 20s and teens, but I was by myself….
Anyway, I would LOVE people’s thoughts, and/or similar experiences!

I am from San Diego. Somehow, through my travels and adventures, I ended up on the east coast. I wanted to do something crazy after graduation, to get out there and experience the world instead of just reading about it in college textbooks. Here I am, eight years older, I have a college degree, I have been all over the world, I have lived in three different states since I left SD (moved so much because of work), and there is no better place in the world to me than San Diego. I will be moving back there in a few months but I am worried about started all over again there. Most of my friends there have since moved away and I feel like I will be a stranger in a great big strange city, although I did spend 18 wonderful years there.
I live on the East Coast and plan on moving to San Diego after High School graduation. Which is six months away. I have a place to stay and a free ride there, plus my best friend is moving in with me after a year. I would love to attend college for creative writing and photography, which seems to be narrowing more towards photojournalism.
I’m super excited to start a new life. I’m nervous and scared because it seems so soon. It’s just something I feel I have to do.
Hi everyone…I currently live in NJ and thinking about moving to San Diego to be with my boyfriend. He’s a Marine and is stationed out there. I have a good paying job now but looking for a change. Im scared but excited too. Can anyone give advice about nice apartment complexes near MCAS, jobs out there and any tips on moving to SD. Greatly appreciate it.
i live in South Florida which is totally awesome. I grew up here and have been a teacher for five years. my best friend has moved to San Diego and loves it. I was married for eight years and now I am on my own once again. My best bud has told me to move over there with him, but I fear one thing.I am a teacher and our pay is not so great. I keep hearing that San Diego is so expensive. I want to know if anyone has moved from miami to san diego and if so how much more expensive can it be. I mean Miami is expensive.
I want to move to San Diego with my wife and 1 year old daughter. The plan is to find a sublease while searching for a condo near downtown. I work in IT. Does anyone have suggestions about finding a job in Cali, since most job posting specify in-state condidates only? I can’t bear another Michigan winter.
I am from Manchester, England, me and my girlfriend are thinkin of leaving and heading stateside. The cost of everything in England now is getting silly, really silly (Petrol is now over 2 dollars a litre). Does anyone have any advice on housing over there, not to bothered about work as i can get a transfer through my company, and my girlfriend is an Intensive Care Unit Nurse, so im sure she will have no probs getting a job.
Anyone who has just moved to SD give me a shout, one thing i have been worried about is making new friends, i am extremly social here and the hardest thing for me to leave behind will be my mates!
