    Moorland jaunt 1 week ago

After work last night the weather was so perfect a picnic was inescapable. We took prawns and strawberries to the moor, beside some standing stone circles.

As ever, Mme Lupin settled down at base camp while I struck out – past wild foals, skylarks, irises, swallows – to the bog cotton and the sundews in an Elizabethan strip mine.

Impromptu picnic in the park 1 week ago

Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera – you will have to imagine.

The 3 of us at work who are about to be redundant took off at lunchtome for a couple of hours – we bought salads, quiche, and strawberries from M & S and took them to the park, where we sat in the sun and enjoyed it all.

Shame we had to come back to work.

    Picnic season is upon us.

This seems like a good goal to have right now.

Iron Age picnic 2 weeks ago

This was on Thursday, I think. It had rained but cleared to a perfect evening.

Straight from work to a hill fort dating to 300 BCE. Never been there before – about 10 miles from home – and it was huge, really defined still, with a marvellous view all the way around to the sea and two moors. Butterflies everywhere. The pic is taken from the middle of the inner circle.

Mme Lupin brought a good picnic and, after eating, she sat and read while I strode the ramparts, quixotically :)

Does this qualify? 4 weeks ago

Yesterday after work, I stopped at the Co-op and bought a sandwich and a smoothie and carried them up to the heath. Can one picnic alone? Not alone at all, because I used my Quackberry to chat on GMail for an hour while enjoying this view.

Too sunny all this week :) 4 weeks ago

Straight from the office to the south coast for a picnic on the harbour wall. The wind’s picking up and the forecast isn’t good for tomorrow but this has been a perfect week. A good picnic, too: olives, good bread, cherries and strawberries; fizzy water to drink rather than wine (Mme Lupin has a car for a few days) but that’s no loss.

on the way to work and returned to share my sandwich with them at lunchtime. There’s a large warren under the tree. Perhaps this doesn’t qualify as a proper picnic but it’s close. Walking back towards the office (no more than 200m), I checked the bullrushes: frogs everywhere!

Sitting at my desk, thinking of my Bradamantean friend’s post today regarding her picnic, I had no choice but to phone Mme Lupin to arrange a trip to the beach after work.

The light didn’t last long – and the food and drink was whatever we could find on the way (and fit in my briefcase) – but nonetheless: we too have started the year’s picnicking!

    at last!!! 10 months ago

ages passed since our last picnic
    but finally
yesterday we went to a quite particular part of our region, we explored the area and had a gorgeous picnic on a little peninsula:
the breeze was pleasant, the heat sufferable and mosquitos very gracious towards us
