I sent in my enchantments permit application, for “any weekend”, so I’ll have to see when (or if) I get it for (I should know in about a month).
I might do STP (I excluded that weekend from my enchantments permit application). It would be fun to go on a long bike ride without worrying about doing my own route/lodging etc. But I don’t particularly like flats or pacelines…
I went to a talk about studying whales in Greenland at UW last night. I looked at some travel agent and tour sites, and apparently Greenland Air is flying direct from Baltimore. It’s only a 5 hour flight, so it’s actually closer than any other place in Europe (even though Greenland is officially part of Denmark, the West coast, where most of the cities are, is closer to Canada). It would be fun to be there for the summer solstice… 5 years ago

An interesting third option for a cycling trip came up this week: Cycle Oregon on the second week of September. I’ve signed up for the trip

Camping @ Waterton-Glacier National Parks: July
Camping @ Moran State Park: August
Camping @ Deception Pass: September
With Ride Around Washington (RAW) selling out on January 3rd, the options for doing a week-long ride are now wide-open. A couple of ideas I’ve been kicking around:
- Take the Amtrak Cascades (because it allows unboxed bikes) to Eugene, bike along the coast to San Francisco. I think I could motel along the coast, eliminating the need to haul a bunch of stuff on my bike.
- Fly to someplace in the southwest US, bike to a major airport. (Examples would include: Durango to Boulder, Farmington to Salt Lake City.) This would require more a BOB trailer . 5 years ago
