I’m playing Risk online now. I did sign up on an A&A site, but figuring it out has been a little too much to ask right now, so I took the easy way out. So that’s actually…a little counterproductive, since my ultimate goal is to play A&A with real people, using a real board, set up on a real table.

I am having fun, though…! :c) And I’m at least playing against HUMAN opponents online, so it’s a step toward my goal. :c)

I was all ready to bust out Axis & Allies today: I had three other players lined up, and was in the middle of sorting the pieces all out, when I got a phone call from one of my friends saying he had double-booked himself and he had to do the thing he’s agreed to first. And then I got a call from another friend saying he was beat after work and couldn’t think straight, so he couldn’t play. So…the war’s off for today. We’re going to try and do it on another weekend, so hopefully I can cross this off my list by the end of January. I hope.

I’ve just sent an eVite invitation to six of my biggest gamer friends, asking them which day over the first weekend in January would be best for them. I hope at least two or three reply, but even if only one person can make it, I’ll be a happy guy!

Got some time over Christmas holidays and I have a lot of friends who are big gamers, and most of them have played Axis & Allies before. It shouldn’t be hard to get a couple of them over to my place this winter and see what the game’s all about. I’m sure I’ll get my butt kicked, but I’ve had a copy for over 3 years and I haven’t played it. It’s about time!

I haven’t played a non-computer wargame in years!! I miss it so much!!!

I like Risk better.

You can either find local games using online resources like www.axisandallies.org, the www.meetup.com site (Just type in http://axisallies.meetup.org). I run a Axis & Allies Meetup site in Denver and we have gotten together once a month for over a year to play regular games. (My site here http://axisallies.meetup.com/56).

Best of all, you can go to http://triplea.sourceforge.net, and download a free opensource software program that will let you play the computer or other players, and master your skills before you play others in person.
