Getting rid of books 7 months ago

I have cleared a bunch of books from the bookshelf and I’m sorting them into three piles – books to sell on eBay, books to release on BookCrossing, and books to give to charity.

I am also giving away travel books as prizes in exchange for advice on San Francisco on my blog: http://www.roamingtales.com/2009/05/16/farewell-london-hello-san-francisco/

Personal finance and career advice books for sale 7 months ago

I’ve listed the following on eBay:

Brilliant CV – What Employers Want to See and How to Say It by Jim Bright and Joanne Earl

A Bit on the Side – 500 Ways to Boost Your Income by Jasmine Birtles

What Not to Spend – Priceless Ways to Manage Your Money by Alvin Hall

Progress in preparation for move 7 months ago

So far I’ve sold the bike and bookshelves, released a box of books on BookCrossing, and taken a backpack full of shoes and clothes to Oxfam.

I need to sell the dishwasher, desk, digital radio, selected DVDs and take more items to BookCrossing and/or Oxfam.

War on paper 19 months ago

I have bought a metal filing box with hanging folders and a bunch of manila folders and I’m busy going through the piles of paper in the house and either discarding or filing them. I even have a labeller, which might be overkill but it makes me feel super-organised and tidy, even though I’m not.

Paper is one of the biggest sources of mess in our house so this could really revolutionise things.

The desk, which I cleared several months ago, is still going well and is used daily.

Progress report 22 months ago

This is a big task but I am making progress.

A few weeks ago I cleared off the corner desk, which was previously buried under piles of paper and random junk. My boyfriend is delighted because he can now do his work there rather than the kitchen table.

On the weekend I sorted out the bookcase. I put the fiction books in alphabetical order and sorted the non-fiction books by category. I also pulled out some books for storage in the hall cupboard and others to get rid of – some are being donated to charity, others released through BookCrossing, and I have listed a few on eBay as well.

The task for this week is to go through my old cooking magazines and clip anything worth keeping, then that can be junked as well.
