Jessy is having computer problems.
In 2007, much of my time and effort was focused on my hubby’s health and recovery. So first of all, I’ll list what happened with him:
1. In January, he cheated death yet again. He was put in the ambulance with no blood pressure and kept in the hospital for several days, during which his blood pressure meds were cut in half and then reduced again. No more problems with that, thank heavens.
2. In February, he went to rehab for a week and was kicked out for not making enough progress. I decided that I was his therapist.
3. In March, I bought a standing lift, and he stands every weekday. We started a regimen of exercise, including leg lifts, weights, and pull-ups. His strength and mobility have increased with each passing month.
4. I diligently searched for a suitable used wheelchair van. I was ready to ink a deal with a dealership north of us, but when I had the van checked out, it had major and expensive problems. Finally, I found and bought a van on eBay, and we are now mobile.
5. I asked his neurologist if we could have a speech/cognitive therapist to help him with finding the right word. That is now in the works, and someone from the home health agency should be calling us soon.
Goals for 2008: Water therapy in the pool, with friends’ help. Standing alone and walking, or making good progress toward it. Cognitive improvement.
In 2007, I also made efforts to improve and maintain my home.
1. I had dead trees removed.
2. I had the house and fence pressure-washed
3. I had bushes trimmed
4. I found a guy to mow my lawn who actaully showed up when he said he would.
Goals for 2008: Remove more dead trees. Have mulching person come to clear around trees. Have bushes trimmed again. Get estimate for a parking pad and put it in if I can afford it.
In 2007, I tried to make progess at work in spite of my increased responsibilities at home.
1. I presented a portfolio and was interviewed for post-tenure review. I received the highest possible score (yay!).
2. I signed two book contracts to bring my textbooks into the fourth edition.
3. I taught my classes to my own satisfaction, something I had not done sice returning to work after hubby’s long hospitalization.
Goals for 2008: 1. Finish the books, make the deadlines. 2. Teach a new class. 3. Find a way to do the community service part of my job, which I have neglected since hubby’s illness.
In 2007, I tried to bring order to my life.
1. I went through mounds of bills, did taxes on software when my tax person left town, and vowed to declutter my office and hubby’s. I made some headway, but not enough.
Goal for 2008: 1. Become a paragon of organization. 2. Clean out my office and hubby’s 15 minutes at a time. 3.Develop systems that work for me.
In 2007, I wanted to develop healthy habits and lose weight. I failed miserably.
Goals for 2008: 1. Lose weight through the SparkPeople site. 2. Reduce stress through exercise and/or meditation. 3. Be kind to myself by providing time to read, rest, and relax with friends.
Okay, that is probably not all, but it’s all I have time to do for now.
