StrongRedHead Why does applying to grad school have to cost so much?
How I did it: I went on a college J-term trip geared toward 'culture'. We went to lots of shows and museums. As a theatre major, Broadway was the best! We saw 12 Angry Men, Chicago, Hairspray, Brooklyn, Wicked, Rent, and the NYC Opera and Ballet. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I went to Broadway a bunch with my family when I lived in New York. I saw Cats, Grease, The Rockettes, Annie and more... It was a great experience that had a lasting impact on my life. Read how I did it…

I have a friend at work who not only majored in Theater in college but has become my theater guru. She is signed up to a few online theater groups which allow her to get Broadway tickets at discount rates. Knowing that I am a theater neophyte she tells me of shows she think I’d like and we make plans to go see them. About a month ago we went to see “Boeing, Boeing” which was hilarious! Christine Baranski and Gina Gershon were in this production and I was so starstruck. Next week, we’re going to see the musical “Gypsy” – and I’m super-excited.
Glad to check this one off my list!
It was Cyrano de Bergerac, with Jennifer Garner and Kevin Kline. And it was phenomenal.
One of the most fabulous things about the winter break was my present from my squishy: a trip to see The Little Mermaid on Broadway! It was silly and sexist as usual, no surprises there, but the COSTUMES! The SETS! COMPLETELY FABULOUS. The mermaids had skirts that looked like mermaid tails when they sat on a rock, as well as tails curving out from their butts up over their heads. They all had those sneakers with rollerskates built into the soles, so they could glide/swim along in the water. And there were fabulous electric-eel effects. Oh. So fabulous. So much fun with my squishy!
Hairspray! Was actually a really great show aside from the poor seating. This was definitely something worth doing. Others that I /really/ want to see are Avenue Q, Phantom of the Opera, and The Producers. I have to get to NYC more often. :)
Though born and raised in the NYC area, I’ve been living on the west coast for 22 years. Back in NYC again – and I’ve seen about 8 Broadway shows since my return last year.
Top recommendations: Avenue Q (by far #1), Spring Awakening, Coram Boy
this is definately one of my goals that I must accomplish. its going to be such a memorable experience that I’ll never forget!
There are waaay too many people at school that I talk to who have been to see at least 2 plays on Broadway. It makes me want to go even more! RENT, Hairspray, and Mamma Mia! are topping the list right now.
